I quite like the use of the numpad multiplication cap as the Esc key, very creative!

I can't choose which one each day. So, I alternate between the three of these (The HHKB is new and will be injected into the lineup starting tomorrow).

- Stock HHKB
- Custom 60% - Satan board, 55g springs in Cherry MX silents, plastic case, steel plate, GMK Skeletor
- Filco Majestouch 2 - Lambo aluminum case, Cherry MX silents, Pegasus Hoof Controller, GMK Plum

Poor's man icon modifiers...while waiting for the Yuri's that will be real thing. Meanwhile I quite like the x there, it just makes sense to me.

Still getting away with using a Lexmark SSK at work :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Man my coworker threatened to kill me from the noise made with Cherry MX Reds, and even this one Chicony rubber dome board that had a noisy spacebar.

If I brought my Model M to work I'd probably get executed on the spot, lol!

Ye same here my boss hates my keyboards. He says they're too noisy.
He just doesn't understand, he even tried using one I had with gat blacks and he didn't like it. I almost fought him there on the spot.

One other guys here pounds his keyboard so hard he's crushed the Ctrl key.

Another guy has a Ducky with MX blues (actually my keyboard that he is borrowing).

So noisy keyboards are kinda a thing.

There's only one guy that complained about the noise and he moved right down the other end of the office.

But.. why?

Family was staying over with a light-sleeping baby. It's a quiet enough keyboard (no clacking), though not as quiet as the Apple BT keyboard.

Oddly enough, it works alright for RTS gaming. Very snappy domes (a bit heavy for me), ~3mm travel.

It's funny because this keyboard is actually quite well made and comes with a really nice cable, carrying case, extra keycaps with a felt bag, and even a little fan to keep your hands dry. The macro keys can be handy and it has 5 profiles you can switch between, each with its own backlighting color of choice and macro functions. I can certainly see this being handy for some people.

It's pretty bad for normal typing, though.

I'll soon be trying 30g Topre and perhaps 45g HiPro as well. Should probably get rid of some boards.  :-X

Is your HHKB Hypersphere'd? Just wondering because I find my hypersphere'd HHKB to be quieter than Apple chiclet keyboards that my coworkers use. Or maybe it's because the sound is less sharp. My cheap domes are actually louder than my HHKB.

Nope! I love the sound of Topre keyboards stock -- no silencing of any kind.

I did however end up making one of my HHKBs quieter by lubing. I'm going to clean it off though I think as I preferred it stock. Perhaps I'll try a dry lube like graphite, or even white lithium grease might be good.

My HHKB came Hypersphere'd and lubed so I've never tried a stock one =(
I almost like it enough to buy another though.

Realforce 108US, 30g uniform Topre (non-silenced).

I had to try 30g Topre.  :-X

Next up might be the HiPro as I really want to try it... not sure when that might happen though.

Using my latest build right now. Gazzew66 PCB (60% with arrow cluster, really nice layout IMO), MOD-M switches spring swapped to 80g gold plated springs & lubed with thick krytox mix, Cherry screw in PCB mount stabilizers clipped & lubed with super lube, black alum/acyrilic sandwich case from Sentraq, enjoyPBT black/red hangul caps. Will be adding SIP sockets & either warm white or ice blue LEDs when my order from Mehkee's latest GB comes in.

Overall I am very happy with the way this build turned out & especially happy with the layout. The only real quirk of it is that there is no room for the /? key because of the arrow cluster so I programmed it to the R alt key which took a little getting used to. I had to do some "customizing" of the plate to get my layout to fit on it, nothing a Rotozip couldn't fix though. MOD switches proved to be a good decision again, very tactile & very smooth even without the lubing. I have heard some say they gotten really scratchy MOD switches so I'm guessing they revised the design in some way since the 1st few batches. I've gotten 2 batches of MODs so far & have found both to be up to my expectations.

The only part of the build I am kinda unhappy with is the acrylic mid layer sent with my sandwich from Sentraq. It was warped a bit & the hole drilled in the top middle does not line up with the other holes causing there to be a curve in the acrylic. Gonna have to replace that very soon, thinking of having a colored pc of acrylic custom cut for it since the under glow is only white. All in all though it is a dream to type on & is fairly quiet even though I can't add any shelf liner to the this case because of the underglow LEDs.

Very nice build.

Would you recommend it for a first build?

Just bought an HHKB Pro 1 and I love it. I actually like it a lot more than I thought because I haven't used anything but linears in a long time.

Everyone here is posting such nice keyboards. Look what they gave me at my new workplace as working student:

That thing is the biggest piece of crap i have ever experienced in my life. The keys are so flat, if i hit the spacebar normally with my thumb, my thumb hits the case every time, because the spacebar goes deeper in than the frame is high. And the keys feel mushy. It's totally annoying.
Just as i started using mechanical keyboards and thereby getting to know a bit how good it could feel. Now i have to look for a really cheap 60/65% with non clicky switches to bring to university/work, preferably programmable.

Personally I found this very easy to solder. I don't know if it's the best starting board since it is pricier. Might be better to find a cheaper 60% or something.

That is true I wouldn't want something too expensive to start out on.
Been thinking of getting a kit someplace when I get all my parts for the soldering.

Still getting away with using a Lexmark SSK at work :D

Man my coworker threatened to kill me from the noise made with Cherry MX Reds, and even this one Chicony rubber dome board that had a noisy spacebar.

If I brought my Model M to work I'd probably get executed on the spot, lol!

The guy pounding his kb reminds me of an incident I completely forgot about until now:
My boss at a newspaper editing office many years ago typed so vehemently that he destroyed 2 rubberdome keyboards in the 2 weeks that I worked there. He was a short, scrawny guy with a high, crackly voice...not who I'd picture as having hammer fingers. He mentioned to me that the office manager was tired of replacing his boards so often. He said he just liked typing hard.  :p
You know this story is true because it's boring.
