The theory is more'less sound..

It's not so much that we need less people. We just need to stop eating animals.

The difficulty in that is the massive education needed to instill the science.   Absent serious trauma, hughmahns lack the motivation to act against' their general hedonism.

So, If there WERE artificial inflection points to be created. These Less-serious viruses seeem to fit the bill.

It is most definitely not making climate change worse.

But it's not about the short term reduction,  it's about getting everyone to finally look hard at the process.

right now it is making everyone look away from the problem, and all of the extra things to move around like alcohol (either way you produce it will release greenhouse gases) and masks and other new things needed it create new pollution and either way the money is not at saving the planet... a bit pessimistic maybe but peoples only think so far as the dollars that falls in their pocket, and maybe counting if the neighbor has more too.

I don't think you're on the right track,

We have a power production glut, which means industrial is not buying power.  That is a net reduction.

If this virus was engineered to cripple humanity not enough people has died of it to make a long term impact.
And I don't mean long term impact in the climate or such, but in the global pouplation. We would need to reduce global population for generations so the changes are longlasting.

Nah, I believe this has been a natural phenomenon, and not a new one. Evola was close to beeing a global pandemic, instead was an african pandemic. Other flu have struck animals by the thousands globally. We humans have been spared for a long time and are now victims of the globalization of economy and leisure.

As a rule of thumb there is not much good to expecto from society, goods will usually be found in individuals.
