OKOK...

How bout Everyone Gets their post count   Cubed...

(Attachment Link)

27+ billion sounds like a fitting number for my post count

Cubed is so awesome..

Tp4 would have 1.38 Trillion.

Halverson would have 1.5x10^20 posts  :))

I vote we cube the posts

Have to ramp up the posting rate again ...

Seems to be kinda proportional.

Something like around 10-15% of posts are gone.

Which, obviously, is a lot more for some people than others.

I'm wondering what mod was drunk moderating and screwed things up.

Surely there are logs? :P  :spam:

Edit: Also wondering if some of the bigger photo heavy threads are too big for SMF to handle. They might need locked then restarted as v2.

Can someone explain what is happening? I have seen something similar from time to time; each time a different explanation was given. Nothing makes sense though.

There are logs, but nothing in the logs the mods have access to explain this. We think it has to do with the database behind the site, which we as mods don't have access to -- so we have to wait for the admins to take a look, as it's a separate set of logs.

Can someone explain what is happening? I have seen something similar from time to time; each time a different explanation was given. Nothing makes sense though.

The last time postcounts changed (that I recall) was when we changed which subforums counted towards postcount. That's different from what happened this time, because as far as we're aware, it wasn't the specific action of any mod that led to this issue. We don't yet know what the cause was this time, we're hoping once the admins take a look we'll have an explanation.

Has anyone noticed if their total post count overall is the same?

I can't remember what mine was a week or two ago - maybe a large section of posts was archived or moved into an area that does not count towards post count?

my solution from post whoring was to just remove post counts being displayed. People care less about post counts and more about join dates at that point.

What always amazes me is the people who have been members longer than I have that don't have the 25 posts required to post a classified ad when they decide to clear out their old stuff.:D

Lots of people make accounts just to lurk. I suppose it does make it easier to follow threads and such that you're interested in. Personally, I never bother making an account anywhere until I want to participate, but I can see the logic in other approaches.

I don't think we lost posts, but I also don't know of any threads being moved or subfora having their settings altered. Still waiting to hear back from the admins.

If anyone does know of some thread or grouping of posts that's missing, or doesn't appear to be being counted, that would be valuable information for us to have.

Yeah, viewing stats my post count is the same as before but "counted" ones dropped from 525-ish to 208. A bit sad I just recently reached 500. :(

I think it's just the what did you get in the mail today thread but that'd mean I've posted there 1600+ times so I could be wrong.

can the mods make individual threads not count towards users' post counts..?

Right after posting (not really an issue, someone on that page has an image hosted on that site or something).

Dumps me here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=33130.msg628784#msg628784

Which is page 996 when viewing 50 posts/page.

Also confirmed that it looks like each new reply pushes the place forward by one where you'll land when the page refreshes after posting, OR clicking the 'Last Post' link in Spy.

Having the same issue as dg.

I generally hate all keycaps. Keycaps are for poofs. Real men touchtype on stems. Non-functional artisans are awesome, I use them for the ESC key ... escape is for cowards anyways, real men go frontal assault.

my solution from post whoring was to just remove post counts being displayed.

Has anyone noticed if their total post count overall is the same?

I can't remember what mine was a week or two ago - maybe a large section of posts was archived or moved into an area that does not count towards post count?

I think overall is the same.

I don't think we lost posts, but I also don't know of any threads being moved or subfora having their settings altered. Still waiting to hear back from the admins.

If anyone does know of some thread or grouping of posts that's missing, or doesn't appear to be being counted, that would be valuable information for us to have.

Just curious, who are the back-end admins?

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69449.0

According to the list there's 4 admins and iMav, ashort not being active in over a year. Photo already knows but told me she's waiting on an Admin as well. So I'm guessing rkinze is the only back-end admin?

rkinze, samwisekoi, and iMav I believe are the ones who have that access. ashort may as well, but I don't know that I've ever interacted with him. Not 100% sure which of them is looking into this, but I believe it's iMav.

Photo is more of a front-end admin, and has more crossover with the senior mods. I don't know to what extent, if any, she has access to the backend.

And Sam is moving house at the minute so looks like we'll have to get comfortable with these counts :p

If that's the case my goal is to get to 3380 before then so the post count restore bumps me to 5k.

Obviously the 'What did you get in the mail?" thread has the most replies of any thread on the forum.

Again as I said before I'm betting the database is having trouble due to the size of that particular thread.

I believe so, but it doesn't distinguish between the different areas that the different admins are involved in.

I haven't heard anything, but I've been busy with work recently, so it's possible I missed hearing something. Will check with the other mods, and report back if there's anything new.

Also any chance we could get word about the broken email notification system?

I'm wondering if that one's just backed up. I know I've gotten several days of emails all in a block before. Let me do some digging.

I know I've gotten several days of emails all in a block before. Let me do some digging.

I feel like 50% of the time I have that happen.

Every once in a while I'll also get a notification of a post from a few months ago.

Basically, I think the emails have always been a bit broken.
