Best duster?
« on: Sat, 29 July 2017, 11:03:46 »
Are there any unlimited use air dusters out there that are better than the usual compressed can? I know the hurricane thing that Massdrop tries to sell is awful. I'm okay with there being a cord.

I use a little snot sucker bulb but all entry points on my PC have dust filters so it's not much of an issue. I guess there are variants of air compressors with filtration systems to help eliminate moisture and static discharge but at that price point--I'd wonder if buying something from Metrovac/Metro Vacuum (Datavac) would make more sense.

I'm not really worried about cleaning my PC. I hardly ever have to dust the inside, I figured out the golden ratio for negative air pressure. Mainly just keep my keyboard clean.

Oh damn keyboard cleaning. I use hot soapy water for the keys and one of them thin brushes that came with my clipper set for the non-washables. Because I'm lazy like that

I basically do this. Except I've got a toothbrush for all the scrubbing. :p

wow people clean their keyboards
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I use this to blow out my computers at home and at work. Have not bought a can of air since.

https://www.amazon.com/Metro-ED500-DataVac-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW

There is a higher end model I like even better that is marketed to the pet grooming market (dogs hates these though as they are so loud). I scored a new one at a yard sale for $5. This model is 1.3 HP Vs. 0.75 HP for the standard ED500 model.

This also works great for drying freshly washed key caps.

Yea, way overkill. If you still need more power you would be better off with a heavy duty air compressor.
