How many keysets do you usually buy?
« on: Sat, 08 July 2017, 13:15:19 »
So i'm going to join my first GB of keycaps, and i got curious how many sets do you usually buy?
Probably picking up two nautilus, and arguing if i want a 2nd solarized set as well.

I've bought 3 total sets in my entire keyboard career.

Collecting caps is silly, because those labels are meaningless.

Why is that key a Q,   just because the key cap says so..

Fk you keycap,  don't tell me what to do..

One...why would I buy more than one of the same set? There's so many sets I want to buy I don't need two of the same.

I've only ever bought one set at a time (though I might get a few different kits, as I'm sure lots of folks do). I like to preserve some buffer for other sets I may enjoy.

In many GBs I'm fairly sure I've seen folks mention picking up multiple sets at a time. I've always assumed this was so that they could trade out a set once it's worn out, or to use the set on multiple keyboards at a time. If you really love a set, it's your money -- if that's what'll make you happiest and you've budgeted for it, then I'd say go for it :)

I usually get one of each - the price after conversion to Aussie dollars usually prevents anything else.

The original Tai Hao was an exception - got 6 sets of that but they were only $12 each!

I don't have that many key sets so far.
They always seem to coincide with me already having spent my budget for the month.  :))

For some time ago I bought 2 Tai - Hao Hawaii sets (was a GB on Massdrop). The problem for me is that I have some 108 keys k - boards (Ok, I have 1 ISO/Nordic TKL but I never use it, don't like Cherry MX Blue) and Tai - Hao sets are 104 keys. So I use F1 - F4 from the second set to get 108 keys.

That's why you should save a little each month in a "keycap fund" so that when an interesting GB comes up you have funds ready and waiting!

I cringe every time a currency conversion comes up when I buy a keyset.
