The only upset I see in this will be because of how they made their brackets.  Han and Luke in the same quad?  That's silly.

Right, but that should be a semi-final, not quarterfinal.  To be honest, they loaded the crap out of that group in general. They did the dark side rankings and pairings well, but it's like they gave up on the light side.

How does Light A have Han, Lando, Obi-Wan, Luke, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Mace, but B have stellar people like Wicket, Captain Rex and Ahsoka?  It's almost like they're trying to make people see a Semi-Final between Han and Chewie/Vader and Emperor.

Oh god, I made a spreadsheet...https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AogGyDQAChFrdDhNTFFWdXAzUmJqd1NyQjVWZWxveEE&usp=sharing

Column A is rankings 1-6, column C is proper March Madness style pairings.  There's still the chance for upset in the first round, but the rest are where they belong.

That's the point of rankings.  Would you care to see the landslides now or in quarterfinal matches?

And I just realized, they aren't trying for a han/chewy semi, but a han/chewy final.

I just wanted to say that IG-88 is a total badass, even though he likely won't get far due to fandom. Also, Dengar saved Boba's life from the Sarlacc so why would they fight? My vote would be for Kyp Durron in the Sun Crusher, but he's not on the list  :(

I call BS.... Lando should have had that. And what now, Luke vs Wedge? Come on...

Now maybe if they were in a piloting match... but Luke would just cheat using the force...

Didn't IG-88 outsmart Boba a few times.  Those are two who should be head to head.

And all these tangential characters, yet no Xizor or Thrawn.

Star-wars is none of those... it's the future, it's our hopes and dreams, it's so real-life practical that it's uncool...

I voted Wedge over Luke. If we are talking pure flying skills (minus cheating with the force), Wedge is the clear winner. Although I am sure that isn't how the voting will go down, shame really.

Salacious Crumb is quite sneaky. Jabba moves too slow to be able to counter.

Wedge > Luke for the lulz

I went Wedge>Luke because Luke is only good because of dumb luck and the Force...at least in the movies.  Wedge, on the other hand, is a brilliant tactician and awesome pilot, hence why he headed Rogue Squadron.

Leia vs Padme? Come on.... meh, too easy. Padme can't talk her way out of an ass-kicking.

Everyone will want to see Jango vs Boba, so I think that's an easy guess.

again, pointless battle..

Boba has 96% highest on the board.

final battle is going to be han vs boba or han vs vader

i'm leaning towards han vs vader as more likely

IMHO, this will end up in a Jedi vs Sith fight (yes, I'm not taking too much risk here :D)

Wait...
I this perhaps a hidden study to gauge the characters popularity helping em decide which ones to bring back in the new movies?

I'm not too sure about that. First, all the bad guys are dead at the end of ep6. Bringing them back, unless they come up with a nice scenario, would be silly.
Then, if they decide to do a prequel, at least half the good guys are not even born yet.
But I might be wrong here...

Anyway, FWIW, I'd be really glad if the could come up with some movies about the dark side roots, back in the days :D

Cpt Obvious, yea of course most of them are. Boba wouldn't have the same 96% vs more popular characters like vader.

It's either going to be Yoda vs Vader, or possibly Han vs Vader or Boba. Based on popularity, that's really the only way this is going to end up.

I am interested in Chewie vs Wicket. As both are equally great in battle. That would be pretty badass if they used AD&D ruleset to decide the winners here :)

Being a huge Star Wars fan, I actually really don't care about that voting ... Waste of time.

Tales from Jabba's Palace by Timothy Zahn - Fett is not dead, he escaped the Sarlaac pit.
Fett escaping is in the EU, so you can choose to ignore it. I do.

Anyway. Star Wars was a long long time ago, so unless they invented time travel (god forbid), he would be dead by now in either case. ;)

Of course there are books with the Clone Wars characters also ...

BTW, Carrie Fisher and Ian McDiarmid are coming to Celebration Europe II in Essen, Germany this summer!
That will be precisely one week before MrInterface's keyboard party in The Netherlands, not too far from there (by train or plane, anyway). Now, what should I do in the Ruhr area in the meantime? hmm..

most of these are no brainers, but how did tarkin get beat out by dooku? I know tarkin was a minor character but still.

and where the HELL is admiral Ackbar?! Did they intentionally leave him out because they knew 4chan would rig it up so he won?

Yeah, pretty much everything is rigged up to ultimately be one of the following finals:

Darth vs Han
Yoda vs Darth

Yeah, pretty much everything is rigged up to ultimately be one of the following finals:

Darth vs Han
Yoda vs Darth
Han vs Boba

Luke doesn't mind not being in the finals. He has to go to Toshi station to pick up some power converters.

Yeah, artoo will eat leia alive.

I'm still saying that Artoo is going all the way. Semis will prob. be yoda vs artoo, and be pretty close.

I mean, everybody knows yoda because he talks wacky, but artoo is ARTOO. It's a popularity contest, and anybody can vote, so even people who watched it like 30 years ago while stoned, or 12 year old prequel kiddies will be voting.

r2 vs vadar  or r2 vs fett would be stupid..

vadar is only up there for the voice, and the endless media parodies of it...

He's not that great of a character.... dumb f..k got his arms and legs all cut off, I loled during that scene in the theater..

That's why he sucks and loses every light saber fight...  :)) :)) :))

R2 hacked into the mainframe of the death star and turned off the garbage disposal, saving Han, Leia, Chewie and Luke.

Boba Fett (accidentally) got hit with a stick because he let a half blind han solo stand a foot behind him for no discernible reason, and flew himself into the side of a barge, then proceeded to roll into the Sarlacc pit.

You're right, Artoo is way more badass.

Unfortunately, R2 is vulnerable to circuitry damage. So if it came down to Palpatine vs R2 - one lighting shot would end it quickly.

Also, pretty much any blaster fire. As long as Boba doesn't derp and fall into some pit, I think he would take R2 pretty easy.

vader might walk into the fight and throw the emperor into the death star core. Besides, it seems like (artoo) only gets disabled from electrical shocks, not actually fully damaged and in need of new parts. Some nanobot repair sorcery, who knows, who cares. They could throw one line of dialogue in to explain it, "Thank god artoo has the whatever machine installed."

I vaguely remember he needed a "repair" in one of the prequels after all his buddies got their asses shot off on the outside of that senate ship while attempting to repair (the hyperdrive?) or something. Maybe amidala gave him an upgrade.

R2 would be heavily reliant upon his surroundings, since he doesn't directly have the capability to fight. So essentially, he interfaced with the Death Star to make things happen in his favor. He wouldn't stand a chance in a bare arena 1v1.

That's when you find out he has a gladiator mode.

It's not like he's ever *needed* it before, he hangs around Jedi and Wookies.

I think he's fired a blaster before in some of the comics. I honestly don't know if it was canon or not, but it would make sense that he has a little manipulative arm that could hold/fire a handheld blaster. It would be hard to repair things that were designed to be serviced by humans without having some sort of hand analogue.

In any case, I think we're skewing the idea of this match-up. It's all a popularity contest, not a "who would win in a 1v1 deathmatch".

1v1 deathmatch

This is what it should be, imo. So basically, each contestant has a set of stats, similar to AD&D ruleset. Votes would add to specific die rolls - but it would still all rely on die rolls, mostly.

And obviously, some characters would have higher stats than others. A very high vote percentage could make the underdog come out a winner.

yoda will spank obi, it'll be artoo or yoda vs Vader. If somehow obi beats yoda (not gonna happen, but a what if scenario) then artoo is a shoe-in.

I personally want to see artoo vs Vader for the simple fact of how ludacris that fight would be, but I think there's a good chance that Yoda will take it.

Just pisses me off they didn't go with Alec Guinness Obi.

the estate of alec guinness probably didn't want them using his likeness. Guinness always regretted doing these films. He only did them because the studio doubled his initial salary offer. Basically he sold out on what he considered "fairy tale rubbish"

idk... kids are completely pussified these days,, they might like the cozy R2, over gimp-Vader.

Kinda.  Even though I voted Fett, I know it's Yoda v Vader and it will be the closest to a tie that any have been

I was surprised chewie edged in so close to artoo.

I guarantee vader will beat boba. If it was boba vs either yoda or artoo in the finals, boba would be going down there too.

Look at the brackets fett has been in so far. Jengar (who?) Jango (basically the same guy except the prequel version, and he didn't fly himself into the sarlacc pit.) and the emperor (who he beat by the slimmest margin thus far, 53% to 47%)

no way fett's going to the finals, vader mops the floor with him in every regard. I think it was a given that the top bracket is supposed to beat the bottom bracket (obi, Yoda, Han, Luke all on top, leia, droids, clone wars cartoon characters on bottom) but I'm thinking artoo has a decent chance. it'll be less than 40%-60% win or lose on the light side. I think there will be a much wider spread with vader/boba.

Vader is not more popular than Fett by any margin. Like I said, put your money where your mouth is :)

Sure, if Vader wins I will make you a cap. If Fett wins you will "_____________"?

I dunno, throw some ideas out there. I don't really have a lot of specialized skills so I can't make you anything. I could put up cash, gift a game on steam of relative value or do a humiliation of that's up your alley.

Throw some ideas out. What do you think a custom keycap is worth?

EDIT this is the extent of my 15 minutes in mspaint prowess. Something not unlike (the attachment) if I win? doesn't have to be so fancy, though.

I still think it's going to end up being the closest margin of any of the votes.

Be glad no one took your bet, you'd be making a large number of keycaps.

Vader was more popular than Fett by a *wide* margin.

Vader, even if by actual force power and not popularity vote, could not beat Yoda. Yoda FTW

Not voting for a 900 year old wrinkled green sock puppet with a speech impediment. The bald asthmatic gimp with a penis helmet is the obvious better choice.

ARTOO NUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Didn't think the spread would be NEAR that wide. . . But yoda vs vader is the way it should be.

Vader will take it handily, probably 66-33 over yoda.

it did play out very differently than I had thought.  Chewie going further than Han, Tarkin getting the axe in the first round.  . . A lot of the brackets WERE stacked, though. Jabba made it to the third round by competing against two guys i've never even heard of (probably from the cartoon, possibly from the prequels)

This is bull**** and I call shenanigans. Obvious rigged bracket was obviously rigged. No one likes Yoda, not even all them dead padwans. Recount! Recount! What about all the people who were over seas or sick and didn't get to vote?

When I was trying to vote the mouse cursor kept moving itself over to yoda, and I heard a buddy saw some Jedi hanging out near his computer when he went to vote. . .

Seriously though, that's horse ****. I didn't even bother voting for vader because I figured it would be such a blowout.

That's probably what happened, everybody who was going to vote for vader figured "Oh, there's no point, he's going to spank yoda back to dagobah." and didn't bother, then yoda won.

Democracy is dumb.
