The name of the movie is "Total Recall", not "Total Recall (1990)".
There is no need to specify which year it came out because it has never been remade, and never will, and the mere thought that it would be would be blasphemy against the church of Verhoeven.

The Mars colony in the movie was a frontier town consisting mostly of a population of male miners, so I think it sort of makes sense that it would have brothels. Just like frontier towns back in the conquest of the West in USA in the 19th century had a shortage of women and therefore a demand for brothels.
Even thought the concept of brothels disgusts me quite a bit, there is some logic that if there are only a few women to go around having them be extra promiscuous could potentially lead to there being fewer fights between the men.
BTW... Larry Niven's "Ringworld" novel had the concept of a "ship's prostitute" ... for the male crew to endure long flights, but that was the alien humanoid race and not the noble humans, no. But the human protagonist in the story still boinked her.

But I expect Elon Musk to make sure that there are just as many male and female colonists. Maybe allow only married couples?

Are you sarcastically dismissing the remake from a few years ago?

Was it unclear that it was?

(BTW. Only the three first lines of the post are about that. No need to quote the whole thing.)

I believe that as more people are educated..

Society naturally comes unbound from our original contracts.

The wealthy came into wealth because they by chance entered a position of greater knowledge.

As we now have more parity in that domain,   the masses ruled by old kings are aware of their worth, and the world's inequality.

Entitled is an inclination , a bid towards a more real democracy.

Perhaps you are middle class, and you've become docile, from having had enough to eat.  The world beneath you however is much larger and it's ignorant to believe YOU or those ABOVE YOU have been fair..

I feel like there are too many movies and TV series right now that are only playing on nostalgia without having anything interesting on their own to tell.
I don't get excited about new movies any more. The expectation is that it is going to suck, or at least be mediocre. I wait to read the reviews when they come out and use that as basis to decide if I am going to see it when it comes on TV a few years later. Or, maybe if the reviews showed it to be interesting in some way then I'll impulse-buy a used DVD at a flea market before it comes to TV.

I got bored with Bladerunner 5 minutes in. Hated The Godfather films the first time; loved them the second.

Citizen Kane can suck it.

Yeah, I have noticed on forums that most people either love Blade Runner or think it is too boring.

About Citizen Kane... Many of these classic movies may not hold up today, but they are high regarded only because they were ground-breaking in the art of filmmaking at the time they came.
Kind of like Filco among keyboard enthusiasts.... :-þ Nothing special compared to what is available today, only compared to what was available seven years ago.

I did too the first time I believe, or rather, I fell asleep.
But it's a damn good movie though. When I finally watched it I was really positively surprised.
