I'm sayin--Apple knows how to tie in the unibody case to facilitate cooling. Lower ambient temps equate to cooler lewd sexual activities. It's a proven fact.

I am not sure if this comment revolves around some form of computer/human sexual gratification kink. but i sure as hell like where this is going.

It does run a bit more hot than my windows laptop did but nothing too bad. I have a small media business and the Apple ecosystem is just way more productive for me. Airdrop and iCloud etc.

I tried the Surface Book 2 for two weeks and just could not do it for the price. Exchanged for this and it has been great.

If the reviews for Fusion 360 via OSX were glowing I would seriously consider the switch. Seems as though Autodesk products are supported a bit more via the OS that shall not be named.

That being said, the cpu fan placement on my old as dirt Acer 5515 heats up bootable USB thumbdrives enough to cause serious stuttering. Stuttering stopped once I figured out how efficient the cpu fan was/is.

I've never bought a laptop for myself with anything larger than 13.3 and even that seems large now.  My primary laptop is an 11.6in Macbook Air but I'm always on the hunt for something with smaller overall dimensions and lighter weight.  :))

I may be getting X260 though, so we'll see how it compares.

There is dual channel single stick memory now, just have to make sure the machine supports it.

Turns out it was a T440.
Nice, but not the X260 I was expecting.

Yes. I'm looking for a keyboard that feels as good as my Thinkpad's... mostly talking about the layout.

I wish they were all 3:2 or at least 16:10.

Samsung has a system that that splits the memory into dual channel. The idea being single stick size and power draw, but dual channel performance. Pretty sure it's only been used on a Samsung laptop so far.

It was a way to get better performance out of ultrabooks that only had room for one stick.

Soldered only removes the socket, it doesn't change watts or channels.

I don't know why they don't advertise Laptop fan's RPM..  it's usually a fairly high number..

My x220 v1 fan hits 5300rpm, x220 v2 fan hits 6000+

If I move to a newer laptop I may do that, however, the laptops I prefer tend to be a bit on the small side which usually means thermal throttling and limited ram. I'd have a hard time coming close to my desktop for performance, plus I like dual large screens. The day is coming, I just wonder if it will be a laptop that replaces it or a phone.

Would you buy a laptop knowing it thermal throttled like a beast while sounding like a jet taking off?

By the way, clean/replace that fan and put some fresh compound on it. If I remember right, you can even use the X230 fan, which is more efficient. None of my X220's got very loud once I cleaned them and made sure all the contact points were in good contact.

Check chipset temps.
There is a smaller tab that cools the chipset(?), it uses a pad because the gap is larger. You shouldn't use liquid metal there as it's meant for very thin, high compression gaps. If that spot is not cool enough, your fan will spin up despite cpu temp.

Also, my understanding is that liquid metal doesn't harm copper it only discolors it.

@ the Coffee shop.. M0ar laptop RPM,  M0ar impress females../Facts of life..

Tp4 x220 heatsink is zinc plated so Tp4 can uses Liquid metal.

Tp4 x220 m0ar Kewl than Pleb-x220s.

What kind of coffee are you dumping into your laptop these days? I hope it's not one of them mocaccinos or vanilla bean lattes.. :(

I don't use my laptop because the fan is too loud.

Liquid metal alloys with copper, this could lead to dry gaps and/or crusting which may diminish heat conductance.

I use a thermal pad for the chipset, I though about shimming it and using liquid metal, but the chipset is not parallel to the sink plate.
