ErgoDox
« on: Sun, 25 January 2015, 17:56:23 »
I'm normally good at searching the web but either I'm coming up short or there isn't anything to be found.  Is there somewhere you can buy all the parts to make an ergodox as well as a guide to put it together at any point? Or do I have to wait around until another sale comes up on mass drop?

Thanks,
Davis

Hey there,

If you look on Massdrop, they have a guide on how to put one together, as well as the necessary software to program one. There are a few lists around the internet with what you need and where you can get it, as well as this site, which looks like it has everything you need: http://falbatech.pl/prestashop/index.php?id_category=12&controller=category

Awesome thank you very much, so weird I couldn't find that website in my search you'd think it'd be pretty high up on the list!

You can get the pcb and components on deskthority.  I have an unused 5layer acrylic case for sale if you're intersted as well

SMD is surface mount

regular diodes are through hole..

THe regular diodes don't fit as well as the smd.. in the standard 5 piece case..

The smd is slightly harder to solder than the throughhole regular diodes.

You're in the USA, thus it might be better to get some parts from mechanicalkeyboards.com (PCBs, perhaps switches, if you want them new) and Digikey (see the list at ergodox.org).

Unless ... you have through-hole diodes inside the switches. Cherry MX switches were made to fit them, and you could (can?) buy switches with diodes pre-installed.
However, the diodes should to be the other way on the left-hand keyboard so you would have to open them anyway.

Thanks for all the information guys, really helpful stuff, I'm going to hold off on taking on a large project like this for the time being and start with smaller ones as I've never soldered anything... The most technical I've got is putting together my computer, which lets face it, is all plug and play these days. Depending on how difficult I find it to add LED's to my Poker II I may gain enough confidence to take on a full custom build.

Don't build any flat keyboards if you're looking for ergonomics..

But if you don't actually use the keyboard --that--much--..  it 's not a huge difference..

Ergodox is really only for an niche-class of users who are computer-obssessed..

I'm infront of the PC for 12+ hours a day.. "By choice"

Hello

I am interested in buying from falbatech but my question is regarding customs.  For international customers ( I live in Canada) where you charged by customs and if so how much?

thanks
