Wouldn't that colour be called Half-Eaten Apple....?  Or Granny Morgue or even Couscous Deluxe.

It's usually the UV oxidization of bromine fireproofing added to ABS plastic that turns it the yellowish brown color.

soak a bunch of tobacco in bromine and iodine, strain it out them use the wash on the item... then seal it in a box with UV lamps for a few months!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I like this idea of using real tobacco coloring.. Though the surface is aluminum so the UV won't do anything, and if I do that to the paint, it'll probably harden and chip.

Oh with metal? Maybe some 'bisque' appliance enamel... like on 1980's stoves.


I used some of that but in gloss white for my custom PC case. It have a very very nice finish.

I had been looking for a few months for a nice beige for my keyboard with beige/grey caps ... and then I found that I already had the right can all the time: Duplicolor beige primer. I started painting with it today, actually.

I have also got Plasti-cote Satin Super "Sand" that is a bit darker and more yellowish. If I used that, it would really look like it was discoloured in the sun.
It is really hard to accurately reproduce colours online without calibrating equipment and such, so  I don't think that posting pictures would do any good.

NO... it will literally MELT ABS. Vinyl dye is better for plastics, similar shade is available. Vinyl dye also holds up way better to wear than paint. I used it on my MX Revolution which I last did like 3 years ago and it's still like perfect after all the near constant contact.

That's interesting--I shall try it when it gets warm again.  Which variety did you use?  DupliColor?

Thanks--I think VHT vinyl dye is sold in a nearby auto shop.  (Or maybe that's engine enamel, and they sell DupliColor vinyl dye...  Either way I know what to look for now).

The space bar is for a FC660M that has stems 85 mm apart, instead of the regular 100 mm posts. I may mod one gluing two stems but I do not like the feeling of a moded one, thus I prefer to paint the original I have in white.

Take apart Leopold and fix the plate to have standard stabilizer spacing, it will never be problem again to have match spacebar I'm sure some of lasercutter could take care of it no problem.

So the concept is.. I spray on some  yellow type beige...   THEN.... a clear coat that's tinted brown..

I'm not sure how I'm gonna get that second coat..

Step 2: A few coats of lighter beige to match the original, but a bit darker/dirtier shade.
Step 3: Spot-spray some even darker beige/taupe from some direction (from some distance, so it does't look like a big circle of paint, but a quick light directional sweep) to get the uneven look.  Basically you want to mist the darker color on very finely.

wouldn't I just get pokadotted spots like this?

Not it you follow step 3 and if you don't get a faulty/cheap spray that sprays in droplets instead of a fine mist.  Some nozzles are bad and spray like that, so always test on scrap cardboard first and begin spraying away from your surface.
