I really hope nothing much changes. I'd hate to start seeing ads and info gathering algorithms pollute the site. iMav has always been fairly hands-off, which I respect a lot.

If we take the time / effort imav has put into geekhack, and divide that by 15k,  he'd be working for below minimum wage..

After a round of layoffs, good people in my old department are leaving the company voluntarily, people who basically hold that place together. Not sure if they are just jumping from a sinking ship, proving a point, want to watch the world burn, or are just tired of getting shafted. Probably a combo. Glad I got out when I did, but surely I will feel the effects. I fear it will lead to a cascade effect.

My old company is quickly disintegrating (engineering is, at least). That company has way too many sales staff and upper management but no where near enough engineers to keep up with demand. And what does upper management do? They criticize engineering for not keeping up with the massive influx. Sales, of course, could stop overselling the services, but good luck with that. Numerous clients have severed their relationship with that company and more and more good engineers are leaving. In order to stop the bleeding, the company is going to move everyone from at-will employment to contract only positions (that way people can't leave once they find out how terrible that place is!). When I joined the company, they had a 3.9 rating on Glassdoor. That company as of today has a 2.5 star rating. Talk about crappy.

Sorry if this is prying, but are you depressed? Losing interest in *all* hobbies is usually a sign of depression even if you don't feel overtly sad. I have felt bored when doing fun or exciting things, and that's sometimes the tip-off.

Honestly I don't feel so bad about Massdrop taking ownership of it. I mentioned this on DT (I think) but Massdrop needs Geekhack in the sense that the majority of their mechanical keyboard drops come from GH. If MD were to do something which alienates the GH community, they would stand to lose a sizable portion of their operating income.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite bottled water companies (Zephyrhills) use to sell ROF water in 1L bottles, but these days I can only find their ROF water in 11L jugs. As a general rule one should always take the easy route. I was serious about those waffles btw
