For a long time, Tp4 was under the impression that modern equipment is very hands off, and procedural rice production is fairly clean. This is only true in some production plants.

After recent video reviews of the process, especially india/thai processors,  significant manual handling still exists in transport and bagging.   Much of these steps involve hard working sweaty guys with shovels.


That is to say,  please wash your rice thoroughly,  even pre-washed rice is not totally clean.


Thoroughly Rinse the rice at least 3 times, each time using approximately 2x the volume of rice worth of water.

DO NOT too powerfully thrash the rice, you will crack the rice grains and release starches, this makes the water even more cloudy, and you're just endlessly going at it.

In principle yes, but just in case there's something knarly in there, rinse and repeat.

Oh found out why my rice was so "dirty", I would thrash while washing for some reason (looks satisfying idk)

Minor addendum,  weavels are not poisonous, you get them around the hot months, as their eggs hatch in rice.  Most rice will contain some.

Before much more modern processes for rice production, there were always weavels after a while, because people bought much larger batches, stored for longer months, through larger humidity swings.

They just sort them out, or some don't bother and consider it extra protein. In rice eating cultures, weavels are considered (Clean) bugs.

I boil them in an excess of water, so there's no need to wash I think.
