Tariff on Cars
« on: Wed, 26 March 2025, 22:44:52 »
Mmm... Tp4 2 buzy buyin computers, shoulda bough m0ar cars.

If you think about it, UK, had all the technology, all the political room to power up manufacturing, how come they aren't a manufacturing powerhouse.

Is it because they didn't have tariffs?

Tariffs ultimately have nothing to do with manufacturing, manufacturing "under capitalism" requires Slavery/near Slavery conditions.

It's virtually impossible to put that system back after your general population comes out of it.  You can try, but you will never have enough of them.

That is why Capitalism follows the Imperialist doctrine of OFF-loading the hard stuff.

Well, there's no where left to offload. If you put on the tariffs now, manufacturing won't come back, the entirety of spending will come to a crawl.

Again, generally a good thing, (climate), (reduced consumerism), but if we're talking about metrics, especially where small money is money to the working poor such as the Tp4,  it's going to get Tuffs.

People should be buying FEWER and especially smaller cars. Especially in the US, those SUVs are ridiculous (and not even practical).

They're "less" practical in europe. In the US, parking spaces and streets are already designed for them.

All my life all I've ever wanted was a car, a family, and a stable job. Life has cruelly denied me all these things.
Now even the most realistic of those goals, getting a vehicle, is sadly going to be forever out of my grasp as well.
What a stupid ****ty pointless waste of a life. Even with just a tiny bit of luck I could've done great things, but instead my life is expending all my time and energy to just barely stay afloat.

Many kids get killed by them in the US every year, in driveways, by the kids' parents, because the fronts of the goddamn vehicles are too high. They could be smaller or sloping, but no.

This is not a big problem.  Same with what you hear about gun violence.   In the 10s of thousands.

We kill significantly more people through normal consumerism effects such as increased cancer/heartdisease/diabetes, all primarily due to meat consumption, in the Millions.  A highly toxic substance.

That argument is mostly whataboutism and invalid.

Incorrect, Whataboutism is a perspective, stating the "relative" terms. It is the most relevant component of problem solving, because you can't solve them all.

Low level argument pick sides,  Real- SOLUTIONS, require sorting.

It's not about that. What I mean is that these vehicles are way too big for what they need to do, use a ridiculous amount of fuel, and furthermore, they are extremely space-inefficient. SUVs are like inverse tardises; from the outside it's a ****ing battleship but once you get inside there's not that much space. Where is all the space going?! Even a midsize sedan feels roomier inside and they occupy half the volume.

One could argue that consumerism is something that people do to themselves while gun violence and car accidents are things inflicted by other people. A significant difference.

It's endless if the argument is towards, where we cut the cheese on responsibility/cause/effect.

But the practical answer to life and everything is quite apparent, Ending Animal Agriculture, will buy us at least 50 years to get wiser.
