Why do they put different switch types on spacebars?

I heard some companies put a (usually heavier) switch only on the spacebar. Why is this? Like MX Green and MX Grey

Because your thumb is stronger and the space receives more punishment. I mean, have you ever been in a Quake match? Eternal bunnyhoping uses a lot of space, you might wear it out if they didn't.

When typing texts, space bar is the most often pressed with your stronger thumb.

Even if your thumb is stronger what is the benefit of a spacebar being heavier? Wouldn't it make it hard to bunny hop

For the same reason I put a single O-ring only on my space bar. It sounds like **** when you bottom it out! :D

There is no benefit at all, I think it is a conspiracy of keyboard makers to spread RSI on a great scale.

Mechanical keyboard users beware. You'll likely to pay dearly for what you desire most.

The button itself is also heavier, especially if there is a large metal stabilizer rod attached to it.

Well some of you seem to have your humor filters enabled, or I wasn't funny? Basically this ^ Cherry started doing it way back in the day with the massive 9 unit spaces, and never changed it. Some manufactures followed suit, and still do. Some people like it, some don't, some could care less. I really don't find it that noticeable on the few boards I have that have this arrangement. Only one board I found it annoying, was a clear board that had the 110g grey. That is one tough *****.

Well, it could also be because your normal user is pressing the spacebar with his two thumbs.

Because Ducky knows ISO is inferior, and it is to punish the buyer for making the wrong choice. LOL.

You have to move your whole hand to hit an ISO Enter anyway, so you can just as easily pound it with your fist. They might as well put a long chrome level four inches (sorry, ten centimeters) above the keys.

Filco does not do this. Blue board has a Blue under spacebar.

Meh, my favoritest keyboard is still the Filco that I threw clears in.  And it proudly has a grey space bar switch.  And that's the way I like it.

Although, I have to admit, I am using a Wyse with the "mighty Cherry blacks" at work and have been for a month or so, and I'm starting to warm up to the linears.  I didn't think that that would happen, but they are smoooth (I know, shocker?)  I really don't miss the tactile bump, but I do bottom out almost constantly.  Waiting to see if signs of RSI return.  If it does, I'll switch back to the Filco, but then I'll have to pick a new "home" board.  (probably WASD/blue, and I do have some greens to swap in.)

Few days old thread, but I've come across it now. I just grabbed a Ducky shine with Red switches in general. For some reason they threw on a Black switch for the spacebar.

Feels about 300x heavier to press compared to the reds. I know it's not actually that large of a difference, but it's really hard to understand the reasoning. Guess I'm just glad they didn't put a grey on it. :] Have we figured out the spacebar for each switch type on Duckys?
