Buying first mechanical keyboard - need advice
« on: Tue, 13 March 2012, 07:05:42 »
Hey guys,

This is my first post. I'm new to this forum, please don't be harsh on me.
I've been using a cheap-ass wireless keyboard for years now. Last night I decided it was time to buy a new one. For some reason I want to try out a mechanical keyboard.

Here is what I'm looking for:
Price: Less than preferrably less than 100$
Main Use: general office stuff like excel and word and some gaming (RTS like SC2)
Design: Not too fancy, I don't like keyboards with too many extra keys, especially extra keys on the left side (I want ctrl to be the key at the very bottom left)

What switches should I use? I was thinking about MX blacks or clears. So far, I like the Cherry G80-3000 with mx blacks. However, I was disappointed to learn that it doesn't do that wellon gaming. Any suggestions?

Greetings from Germany.
Alex

Welcome to GH!

I believe Coolermaster has released their quickfire rapid in MX blacks for the EU market. You should check that out.

Thanks mate. That looks pretty interesting. I prefer a keyboard with numpad though.

I love my quickfire rapid in mx blues. Very good for typing aswell for gaming, with a fantastic price tag. Whatever cherrymx you think you will like either black or blue should be fine.

I haven't found any deals on the Coolermaster board in Germany.
What do you guys think about the Raptor K1 and the SteelSeries 6gv2?
