Has anyone heard of this vendor? Ohmykb.com
« on: Thu, 22 March 2012, 21:09:55 »
I am looking to purchase a KBT Race with Cherry MX red switches, and after a search online - I found the website ohmykb.com. They seem to have a decent selection of boards, but I am hesitant to jump in. Does anyone know anything about this vendor; has anyone purchased any items from them; are they reputable?

Thanks!

They also list a KBT Race with blue LEDs in addition to green and white. I had never heard of a blue LED version prior to this.

Looks like they're snuggled pretty close to the producers then.

Well, it's run by Attarian who I've seen around a bit here and on Deskthority. He seems legit but I don't really know. I tried to buy a KBT Race and some PBT dyesub caps but, unfortunately, I placed my order before he got the next wave of orders so it was out of stock. He told me he refunded my order completely instead of changing my order around. Gotta wait a few days for the payment to clear since it was made by credit card so I'll report back when I get it to see if he's legit or not. He does have a store on taobao though and if you look through the selection and prices it matches up to what you'd see on taobao ($90 usd for PBT dyesub keycaps in blue/red/green/purple similar to imsto's, ~$110 for regular KBT Race, ~$130 for limited edition KBT Race). I don't wanna seem too optimistic, yet I don't wanna seem too cynical either. However, I really can't find anything wrong with the website other than the fact that the contact us function is broken and you have to contact him through geekhack (e-mails got sent back or didn't go through at all).

Btw, the blue LED Races are legit. They're on taobao and iMav's group buy thread has a pic of a Race with blue LED and white keycaps.

EDIT: Got my money back pretty quickly. Looks like I was being paranoid for nothing. Now to try and buy something.

I went ahead and ordered the KBT Race with the blue LEDs and red switches. I'll post a pic once it comes in.

I just ordered a KBT Race Pink edition. It's odd they show 10 in stock even though the people I've contacted so far about it (group buy / taobao) indicated the Pinks aren't due out for another week or so. I doubt my order will ship for a week, but I think the site is legit. I'll let you know when I get my order in.

It is legit, but I have a hard time recommending it.

Placed an order at the end of april for a keycool with reds and some black pbt blanks. After payment, I received an error on the site. I immediately filled out the contact form and waited.
On checking my spam folder the next day, I found an SMTP error message telling me the email to ohmykb was "administratively denied". The message did contain the ohmykb email address, so I sent him an email explaining my problem. Got a reply to my email very quickly; my order status was changed to processing and all seemed well.

Fast forward a week and my order status was still "in processing". I emailed him to ask what the status was, but never got a response. About a week after the mail, I sent him a pm on deskthority, again asking what the status was. I got a speedy reply saying he had been very ill and my order would be shipped asap.

Order got shipped, like he said, but I didn't receive an email containing the tracking number. I presume the same issue that plagues the contact form, also impacts all other automated emails.
I pm'ed him again on dt asking for the tracking number, but never got a reply.

A week after the last message, my order finally arrived. A full month after ordering (shipping went a LOT faster then expected), but my joy was short lived. The keycaps he sent were white blanks instead of the black ones I ordered.
So once again I turned to dt. Sent him a message in the beginning of last week, but still haven't got a reply. Also tried on skype, but got ignored there as well.

At this point I just decided to cut my losses. I can live with the delays but the lack of communication is what really ticked me off. It feels like you're talking to a wall at times and I refuse to keep sending the same message over and over, in the hope he will reply.

Luckily, white blanks on a black filco don't look half bad.

TL;DR
If you happen to be a bit of a masochist, you won't find a better shop.
If you want speedy processing and clear communication, look elsewhere.

EDIT:
Please keep in mind that the above is my personal experience/opinion so your mileage may vary.
