Best frozen grocery pizza?
« on: Mon, 11 July 2016, 19:34:55 »
What is the best frozen pizza? Opinions required.

Home Run Inn is the best frozen pizza I've had, but seems to be regional since I can't find it at all on the west coast. Amazing sauce flavor, good meats and real mozzarella used, fantastic crust on both deep dish and signature

For something you can find in every grocery store I think DiGiorno's Rising Crust is the best all-around. Good cheese to sauce ratio without dried up toppings. Crust is a little on the doughy side though.

Who do you think is king of the frozen isle?

Also curious to see what brands people have in other countries!

Nothing else even comes close:

Only downsides to this product are:

* Long cooking time
* Ease of burning the top of ones mouth with molten cheese

Well... yea........ I supppose,

But um...  Pizza takes around 20-30 minutes to order..

It takes 5-10 minutes to preheat the oven, another 10-15 to bake..  so.....  Might as well just order no ?

This is pretty much why I haven't had frozen pizza since the last time I tried doing it, bout 20 years ago.

If only there were 24 hour pizza places that weren't terrible... I'm not usually home from work until long after anything decent has closed.

But I make my own pizza, no idea on frozen stuff anymore.

My vote goes to red baron, honorable mention to Sam's club thin crust.

We used to buy jacks but after finding hair inside the pizza once I quit buying those.

I don't like digiorno.

For take and bake (not frozen) Papa Murphy's is awesome.

By far IMO. It's also usually on sale at one grocery store or another for $5/ea.

Oh, they have these around here. Been wanting to try them but I have a bad habit of looking at the total weight and buying the heaviest pizza. If it's not over 20oz I feel like I'm getting ripped off.

You wouldn't like these :p . These are more Italian-style pizzas, you know the kind that's not a whole loaf of bread with tomato puree and cheese and stuff on it :p .

What people call "Italian-style" pizza is pretty misleading, too. I've spent a lot of time in Italy, and there are certainly thick crust pizzas and even pizzas that are basically a half loaf of bread with sauce and melted cheese on top. No joke, 2-3" thick. Usually called Sfincione, but often just what passes as pizza in parts of Sicily and other areas.

But, I do agree that napoletana is the best style of pizza. And only made with mozzarella di buffalo.

Place local to me has something they call Sfinch, it's not 2-3" thick, but it's got some amazing casalinga sauce:

I like the idea of frozen pizza, but there are very, very few brands available down here.

The one I used to have cut their varieties back a bit to only h&p and supreme.  I can't stand h&p, and just having supreme every time was getting boring (back when I was single and living by myself it made a nice snack).

Sometimes I think about taking one in to work and heating it in the microwave just before everyone else goes out to lunch.

Mwahahahaha :DD
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Also, whatever Aldi has, those usually are pretty good.

I've found that although Aldi tends to have a pretty small selection in general, they do food and tools extremely well :D .

Tools at Aldi?  Things must be a little different across the pond...

I like the small selection, because most things at the grocery store are a dozen choices of the same thing.  Aldi gives you no more than a few choices of decent quality, and you usually can go home happy.

Yeah, they have great offers on all kinds of toolkits, they change constantly. They're pretty cheap but surprisingly good.
