Looking to get a large Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger. Wondering if anyone has one and would like to share their thoughts. Thanks!

I have never carried a Laptop Messenger. I have two medium Classic Messengers, and they are great bags. Bombproof! And they really hold a lot of gear. I carried a laptop in a sleeve inside a medium Classic Messenger, and had zero complaints. Great bags!

I've had multiple Timbuk2 bags, and like jdcarpe said, these things can withstand a ton of abuse. I've never seen what the laptop bags are like, but based on the quality of the bags I've had, they're probably great. There's a also few more companies known for high-quality bags that do a laptop version, so you might want to google them and have a look; REload comes to mind.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was planning on just picking up the classic messenger with the optional 'sewn in' laptop compartment. I just can't decide on size. My current backpack capacity is 33L, but spread over a few different pockets which I think is making it hard to pack things. Trying to decide between the medium/large. I just don't want to pick up a large and have a huge looking bag on my back.

I have a timbuk2 and it's awesome. High quality product and I love that it has many pockets. You'll just have to find the right size for what you need.

eh, get something handmade by Freight Baggage or R.E.Load. Waterproofing and full customization. Maybe pricier but definitely worth it. IMHO timbuk2 bags are garbage but that is probably because my bag (R.E.Load) has lasted 5x as long as my friends timbuk/chrome bags.

A RELoad isn't even much more than a Timbuk2. I've never owned one, but they're super duper nice bags.

way to make my decision harder.. :/ the r.e.loads do look pretty nice. the rolltop seems like a hassle..

+1 on this suggestion. Also can add http://www.chromebagsstore.com into that list of similar bags which are better than timbuk2. Sorry timbuk2 fans, but there is no comparision to something from Freight/R.E.Load/Chrome

for what its worth, I have Chrome Citizen that is 6 years old that is in better shape than 1yr old timbuk2's that have never seen a bike even

if you partake in the green stuff, the metro has a secret internal pocket for things. You won't find it if you don't know there is one

also, just know the metro is a big f'ing bag which hauls a ton of stuff and is probably too big to fly with. My citizen just barely can fit under a seat in the airplane

I agree. If I ever get another one, it will be the metro as the citizen is too small at times. My citizen hauls a T61p laptop & accessories, 2 or more larger notebooks, some folders, a tool pouch without much trouble. It can also hold 2 sixer's of bottles just fine, but not a case of anything....that is metro land lol

oh yea, also none of their bags in the messenger line come with a laptop sleeve, so you should get one of those either from them or elsewhere ((cheaper)

I have a Rickshaw skinny laptop bag, and dig it. I used to have a Timbuk2, but it was too small for my laptop.

I absolutely love my Timbuk2 laptop messenger. It's 5 years old now, has no real sign of age, and is still working great every day I go to work.

I can vouch for the durability of Timbuk2 bags. I had mine for a couple years and threw it around a lot and it still looks great!

timbuk2 used to be good. now they are just ok. they don't make 'messenger' bags anymore, just manpurses.
chrome is corny as hell. you might as well just put a sign on your back that says 'i like trendy boring mass produced garbage'
jesuswasazombie is on the right track. seagull makes good bags, as does baileyworks. if you can afford it though, get something from mission workshop! handmade in san francisco. just got one of their 'foldtop' backpacks; it's really nice, comfortable, waterproofed all to hell and just enough pockets. their msgr bags are nice too.

Timbuk2's "in-stock" messengers are now made in China, and quality has suffered. If you have a custom messenger made, they still make those in San Francisco.

That said, I now leave my messenger bags at the house. The bag I carry with me daily is a leather briefcase from Vagabond Traveler. It is their L06 model in distressed leather. It's very similar in style and design to the briefcases made by Saddleback Leather. The Saddleback was simply more than I could afford at the time, and the Vagabond Traveler has served me well.

Even though they will be hard to come by in the U.S. Crumpler is a pretty good alternative to Timbuk2. Really thick nylon and pretty waterresistant/proof too. Colour options from plain to pretty wild most of the time.

I love their bags and most of their other stuff.

My Timbuk2 is made in China. I like to take it on a plane - fits under the seat and doesn't take up much space.
