CM Storm Trigger | CM Storm Quickfire TK
« on: Sun, 27 January 2013, 22:18:23 »
Just wondering but does the CM Storm Trigger have the same back-lighting as the Quickfire TK or is the back-lighting different in terms of brightness/clarity/etc?

Thanks!

You need a 2 amp 5v ac adapter, "sold separately", and it supposedly evens out and brightens the LEDs because the default usb profile does not supply enough current to the "Mighty Trigger"...

I've only read this in reviews, not tested personally..

If they used Cherry, you can bet they'd be promoting that all over.... but no.. they kept the oem "hidden" from us... "WHY?" because they don't want some no-name OEM marring their image...

And I'm pretty sure that the fashion is to deny anything that's "not costar"... hence why they decide not to release OEMs.

Look at what's happening to DAS, now that everyone know they dropped from the Glorious Costar.

Is there modding that has to be done or just plug it in somehow? LOL, sorry dumb question..

I think i'm bought on the Trigger except for the low back-lighting..

No there's no modding, but it's sold separately, and NOT sold by coolermaster themselves..

Look at the first review on amazon for the trigger, there's a link to a compatible ac adapter.

There's a hole on the right front of the keyboard, you just plug it in.

Hmm power outlet for HDD, i might have one laying around lol.
Interesting..

EDIT: Dunno what to do, to get it or just wait for a new board..
The TK looks interesting but not Costar means don't buy, that's the rule here right? Haha.

Yup, that's the rule, with the exception of Topre//   KBC/Leopold/Ducky-which might be costar.

The Trigger is just too big though imo, because the number pad is useless to most people.. and you can easily put together a number pad layer with auto hotkey..

I'd still honestly go for the quickfire rapid, unless you're sure data entry will be the  cornerstone of your computing experience.

I want lights, hahahaha.

I have a Costar board currently with black switches, probably want to try a new switch with LED's that's Costar made!
EDIT: I just searched on Google and it says the 6GV2 was made by some other company but uses Costar caps or something like that i think, so nevermind lol!

almost all backlits are cherry stabilizers but NOT cherry made.....there's a difference

the exception is a few iONE boards such as blackwidow, but that's a total POS, so it's an absolute DO NOT BUY... queue/ Jim cramer Bears image.

CM needs to go back to Costar and stay there, the TK would have been an instant buy for me but it's not Costar so i don't want it anymore! :(.

What are my options that have LED back-lighting and costar made, that's like under $100? LOL. (I bet nothing fits in this category)

Not $100 no...

If you want costar style wire stabilizers with LED backlit.. they don't even make that, besides the noopoo i think... which is of questionable quality. some people have had luck.

there's not a huge tk following around because Eventually people plan on buying an aluminum case, and they will probably never make one for the 'less popular" keyboards, which means we're stuck with buying TKL and Pokers.

You' totally missed the Quickfire Rapid - mx blue @  $54 on Amazon.com 2 days ago.. it's $66 now.. Still a good deal..

the other switches are more popular among the kids so they cost more, $80 for the mx-red for example.

Backlit tkl, you only have Ducky, but they're not Costar stabilizers.

I'm from Canada and we can get that for $59 which is the blue switch, the store doesn't carry other switches for that particular model though.

Should i go YOLO on the QuickFire TK? Hahahaha. That's the closest thing to a backlit tkl without going over $100. The QuickFire TK will be like $90 total though..

Quickfire TK weights less than 600 grams, it's a no go.
Is that the proper weight for it though? Seems light compared to every other keyboard that has good build quality..

Yes as long as you are fine with the "gimmicks" that is the integrated numpad/arrow keys and don't mind having to hold down the Fn key for a few seconds to turn it on/off. They don't bother me, but I know it annoys some people. Keyboard feels solid and well built and I've been happy with my purchase.

iRocks does not make the TK.  I'm about to put up my review for the keyboard, but none of the keys feel wobbly.  The typing experience is quite solid.  It is a full plate keyboard, and there is cable routing like other CM products.  I believe CM will use a number of OEM to suit their purposes, but if you've owned a CM product you will know they do quite well with QC.

yes there is a ac outlet connector on the keyboard. i guess if i had one i would plug it in and see.

pretty sure it might but i thought it was more for the USB hub on the keyboard if you needed some powered usb for juice heavy stuff.
