Ducky or Filco?
« on: Wed, 06 February 2013, 18:08:16 »
Planning to buy a mechanical keyboard and I'm not sure if I should get a Majestouch 2 or a Ducky Shine 2. I find the backlight to be very appealing but I rather have a keyboard that lasts me longer than pretty lights. Any suggestions? Also where do you pick up a Majestouch 2? (I live in the US)

Welcome to GH!,
They are both nice boards, I'd personally go the Ducky as I need the backlighting. Made up mind about the switch type?

I haven't tried blacks but I'm very satisfied with blues. Thanks for the welcoming!

I'd personally go with a Filco Majestouch. It appeals to me way more than shine 2.

Go with the ducky.. easier to do backlit if you're into that stuff.. I'd assume you are since it's in your drawing roster..

Filco is more for older people who are not into candy bright lights

Drink the old people kool-aid....get the Filco. Plus, the LED's for caps and num lock are plenty bright

Welcome to Geekhack!

If you want the backlighting, get the Ducky, otherwise get the Flico.  Or get a Ducky without backlighting.  Either should last you for years (although if a LED dies in the Ducky you might have difficultiy exactly matching it for a replacement LED).

Or a CM QFR (without backlighting) - another good keyboard.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

This^  Either a CM QuickFire Rapid or a Filco if you don't need backlighting.  Both are pretty much the same.

QuickFire Rapid:
Has removable USB cable
Has media function keys (The Mulicam Filco also has media keys)
Much lower price

Filco:
Highly regarded brand
Better customer service
