trouble deciding on first mech keyboard
« on: Tue, 12 February 2013, 19:58:59 »
Well, i'm new here guys, so I'd like to start off by saying hello and I hope i have a good time here! :)
Anyways.. i'm having trouble with finding a new mech keyboard.. I'm limiting myself only to NCIX because I can travel there and not
need to pay for shipping fee's which is a pain in the ass imo. Right now i don't know what switch to get, i'm 60% typing, 40% gaming, but sometimes
on some days i can be like 80% gaming 20% typing, it just varies if i'm in the mood to game or not. But i'm a student so typing is a big role for the switch
I'm looking into blues, browns or reds. I'm kinda afraid of getting the blues because I might get bored of the clicking sound, but then the sound of the browns may be too dull
e.g. "clockclockclockclock" I've also heard that browns are very mushy.. I play SC2, LoL, dota 2, Hon, MMORPGS, anything you name it. I just want a good keyboard for a cheap price too.
If this helps.. I've been the type of person to constantly bottom out hard on certain days, but some days i wouldn't type as hard on the keyboard.
Also.. I'm on a tight budget, and i've been thinking of a das keyboard cause i heard its feel is great, but it's a bit expensive, and the font and the keys on the cooler master keyboards
don't look very satisfying.. I know i'm being picky it's just i'm not the oldest guy out there.. I don't even have a job because i'm busy with extra curriculars e.g. basketball, dance and since i'm asian, i have to get that high average haha..
sorry for rambling on but, yeah i can't really decide on the switch and keyboard i want.. it doesn't really matter if it's TKL but idk if TKL is right for me.

Thanks for your time!

-Dalton

Welcome to Geekhack!

Browns and reds would sound about the same.

You can use O-rings to dampen the sound from bottoming out.

You can also replace the keycaps fairly easily if you don't like the default ones.

+1 for QFR :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think, we can honestly from now on, NO MATTER WHAT the poster says in the "what keyboard" thread, respond "Quickfire Rapid"

It's the obvious and only choice.....

I mean, everything else is pointless until the guy gets "INTO" the hobby..

It's looking that way, although the Ducky Zero might also be a contender (once the reviews start trickling in).
