Poker or Pure case?
« on: Fri, 22 March 2013, 14:07:19 »
Are the Poker and Pure cases the same?

I saw some reference to a case with a VERY low lip, and have noticed some pics where some Pokers and Pures have cases with this lower lip... what's the dealeo?

some aluminum ones have low lip.. or high lip.. or medium lip

the regular poker/pure case are medium lipped.

You're probably referring to the Pure CNC Aluminum case (very low lip), which both boards will fit into. The only difference between the two PCB, is that the Pure has an extra screw hole in the middle of the PCB, while the Poker PCB doesn't.
Both PCB should fit into one another's cases without any issues.

ALSO, it depends on the keycaps, if they keycaps are lower profile, then the board would look low lip.. even though it's just regular medium lip

Thanks. Well I need a 60% case for when the GH60 GB comes to fruition, so was hoping there was a low lip option available - preferably at the price around original Poker cases, but that would be asking a lot. Thanks for the feedback.

Aluminum cases selling for the same price as plastic cases will never happen :)

IMO, assuming you plate the poker // gh60  the aluminum case is a waste of time\\coin..

there's no "top" for the poker to be shone off.. If just the "sides" the metal aluminum sheen isn't all that impressive. because it would be dependent on "grain"

And for the people that PAINT their aluminum cases instead of dye.. that's just a whole new level of wasting money on aluminum..

Some people might think it adds rigidity...  This is probably true, but we're looking at a "very short" PCB and if plated, that eliminates any flexing that you could possibly feel from the pcb..

and in the case of the GH60, the PCB is already very good..

I think that people tend to buy accessories for their premium appearance, more than because of functionality, and this happens more with articles like mechanical keyboards that are not mainstream items anymore. The poker is expensive per se, even for a mechanical, and now even more because it is discontinued, that’s one of the motivations for a GH60 after all, thus any add on for the Poker should be a premium as well. The HHKB is the next echelon, 300 in base form, 100 for a dye sub set of keys and so on.

Just my grain of salt.

I get what you're trying to say ideus..

I'm merely saying that on a "POKER" or the GH60, the aluminum is mostly wasted.. especially since we always look at the keyboard from "top down"

You have a point on that.

The owner of one of this cases knows that he has an expensive one ready to be displayed when the time comes to show it up to their fellow GH'ers.  :D  or maybe just for the pleasure of the ownership.
