MX Greens Vs. MX Blues, Which is better? HELP!!!
« on: Mon, 01 April 2013, 16:34:54 »
I have been looking at getting another mechanical keyboard and I currently use red's because I thought I would have hated the click of blues, now I want that tactile and auditory feedback.

So, I have looked into Greens a little bit but cant find many sound/video comparisons to help me discern the differences between the two switches. From what I know Greens require about 80 g of force w/ a hard click (not sure what that really means, does that mean louder or what?), while blues require 45 g of force and no described click (green-hard, white-soft).

As far as greens go I have looked into getting the cooler master cm quickfire rapid w/greens but cant find any others around $100 because for one, the greens are more rare than blues. I was also looking into maybe getting the rapid w/blues instead, but I cant decide, I have tried to get a sample green switch but the person selling them hasn't responded to multiple orders since the 23rd of march. So what I have done to "test" how it would feel, is use a clear spring in a blue body, w/blue stem. This is about 75 - 80 g though so a around the greens but different.

If anyone can shed light on my dilemma I would greatly appreciate it, also if you have any good boards to suggest let me know. I am also interested in alps but barely know anything about them and I am afraid to do research on such I huge line of switches. Looking to buy in the next 3 weeks or so.

I enjoy blues! Tried greens out of curiosity and didn't like them at all, found them to be way too stiff for me. I wouldn't mind a green switch on a spacebar though but that's about it.

If you like and are used to the activation force of the red switches, then going MX blue would be your best option.

As far as sound goes, blues and greens are nearly identical.  The sound of blues is very very slightly sharper, with greens being slightly deeper, but not by much.  You wouldn't know the difference between the two unless they were side by side.

Other than the CM QFR, greens are very hard to come by now.  Hopefully this helps you out a little

I am not really sure if I like reds anymore, good for gaming and all, but bad for typing, too light and no feedback cause me to be slower and mess up more often. I was looking into greens because more force, and the click would be nice. I don'   t know if the force would be too much, that is my only issue, I cant tell from my ghetto "green" what it would be like to type with them on a keyboard. I see you have a keyboard with greens could you maybe do a small video showing the differences between them and explaining the feel? I find that videos tend to be more helpful than text. I also am leaning towards green for the extra force, my hands are big and weigh enough that when I type with reds they tend to actuate before I have a chance to stop or notice. Do you prefer greens to blue? are greens tiring?

I like typing on my greens, but am faster on the blues.

You really won't know which one you'll like better until you try them out for yourself, side by side. The blues are actually more around 60-65 grams of force, I believe.

Most people will prefer typing on the blues. As always, depends on your typing style. You'll learn how each keyboard performs best after spending 3 weeks with each of them.

I will try see what I can do

I would strongly recommend greens then, for sure.

I much prefer greens to blue.  They are not tiring to me in the least, and I don't have the biggest hands out there.  I use my green kb for gaming and light typing both with absolutely no complaints at all.

Just realized that I put 45 I meant 60, I was thinking reds.

If you have "warm hands"

go with GREEN..

If you have "cold hands"

go with BLUE...

Greens are unbearably tough when your hands are cold.

Green is for real men only. Too stiff for pansies.

I thank y'all for the help.

I decided to play with some springs I had lying around and randomly put them in my blue switch I had, just to let people know....820 grams is a lot of force to use on a key switch, very hard to press. Now that I use my Ghetto "green" I see that the force isn't that much and is easily bearable, rather lovely in fact to use. I will soon be ordering the quickfire rapid w/greens seeing as the ducky is no longer available.

I was just going to suggest swapping out the springs!  That's what I'd do, since the QFR isn't really my thing.

I don't have the money to do that. I want a keyboard that I can take with me and use with my desktop as well, but I want to stay under $125 total, I want to key my reds only because I have a 3 year warranty on it and if anything were to happen, I can get it replaced. If I had the money and wasn't worried about warranty, I would swap out springs, I need realiability, I am about to go off to College, I need something that can survive just in case an idiot messes with my kb.

Thank you anyways and have a great day or night, whichever it is in your time zone.

As funny as this sounds... This is actually very true. Lol! As fun as the Greens are, they are terribly difficult to type on with cold hands.

Me real man. Me like MX Green.

:P I call my Greens "The Hulk".

I agree with this. I have come to realize that, as much as I enjoy the Greens, typing is a lot more efficient and manageable on the Blues. If you're willing to sacrifice some WPM, go with the Greens because they are delightfully fun. In the end, I just tend to prefer the more efficient, which is why I consider Cherry MX Reds to be the perfect switch for accurate typists. Just not as much as fun as the clicky ones :P

the greens feel much different from the blues i've tried. not only stronger force. it almost feels like theres a bump when you release the keys on greens. its hard to describe. the click is deeper. the bump and click feel closer together.
