Is iLivid good or safe?
« on: Sat, 29 June 2013, 15:16:09 »
For months, or more, I have seen advertisements for iLivid claiming that it will make my downloads faster or better.

Is there any truth to that, and any reason that I should install it?

Will it drag a load of bloatware along with it?

Thanks!

PS - I run Windows 7 and Firefox over a mediocre DSL line.
“No political truth is of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty: The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands .… may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” —James Madison, Federalist 47
“All the powers of government, legislative, executive, and judiciary, result to the legislative body. The concentrating of these in the same hands, is precisely the definition of despotic government. An ELECTIVE DESPOTISM was not the government we fought for; but one .... in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” — Thomas Jefferson, commentary on Federalist 48

ah.... it's not possible to make your download "faster"

not for free anyway,

by that I mean you'd have to just pay verizon for more bandwidth..

Livid is as useful as a computer to and ant, ignore it.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

well.. you should have some sort of download manager, for sites that restrict bandwidth per session, but there arn't as much of those anymore.

I'm sorry, either this is a typo or it is over my head.

Sorry I was very busy and decided to try and come up with an analogy and failed. It tries to include its own crap with every download. It has an insane amount of pop-ups. It in-beds its self in every browser. Not fun software. If you need a download manager don't use iLivid.

Thank you. Of all the horrible stuff you mentioned, this is the one that makes me most irate.

Just as further advice, you know how to use "about:config" ?
