Sennheiser HD558 or Audio Technica?
« on: Sat, 29 June 2013, 10:12:19 »
Hello everyone, recently I started a thread about USB DAC, but thanks to you, I decided to buy a soundcard instead. It will be Asus Xonar DG ( http://www.czc.cz/asus-xonar-dg_2/80294/produkt?q-category-id=ehe56855iihp19gn2k5f32seu2 ). And you also recommended me a the Sennheiser HD558 headphones.

I am up to buy those two things, but I need to be sure if I do the right thing. Because there are some nice Audio Technice which are just a little bit more expensive, but I don't like the size. And after reading some head-fi posts, it is common to mode them for them to fit on smaller heads. I don't like that either. When I pay for something, I want to pay for complete package, not for something that won't even fit. This setup will probable be for life. I don't have a budget to buy top class headphones and USB DAC every other year and I don't listen to music so often.

I just want a quality headphones for casual music, movies, games, youtube etc.

Thank you all for your time and your answers :)

They are both good brands, never had a problem with either of them. Just go for the one that you like the most.

When I read about AT, there is always note, that they are too big and need the foam mode or rubber band mode. But I don't know anything about Senns, so I think they fit OK. I have Sennheiser PX100 and they are good. I will try to run with them on Monday.

What about the soundcard. Is it OK?

No it's not OK..

Good DAC starts at $500

Good Amp starts at $500

Good Headphones start at $500

If you buy things between $50 and $500...  it's like buying a bunch of quickfires... it's kinda good, but still not a filco..

You might as well just save up for the real thing.
