i swear i don't try to find these topics! so here's the short story, a LA band made a "tongue in cheek" song called "Asian Girlz"

so initially they said this about their song.

"This song is us, Day Above Ground, making fun of ourselves (and many, many other guys) obsession with the always lovely, Asian Woman. It pushes this concept to an absurd level, but at the same time is endearing & submissive.. WE ARE NOT RACIST, HAHA! I mean, look at our band, it’s multicultural!! he's basically saying he's allowed to make a song with every racist sterotype as long as he deems it humor, oh and they have a token asian bass player to make it all ok!

the bad thing is that the model levy tran has gotten lots of threats and stuff, unfortunately she doesn't see it as a detriment and thinks along with the band. i'm actually more confused about the tattoo's, i don't understand tattoo culture.

so my asian self and my asian wife both (tried) to watch the video, for one the music is... not good, it's pretty bad, the music video style is like nsync from the 90's, but the girl was... well i guess there's a reason she did the video, tried to make it big.

what perplex's me the most is that the band's front runner still doesn't understand that the general public is taking this song as just being racist for racist's sake, while he thinks it's just satire. Now the point i want to discuss, is this because he has "artistic" (this trash isn't art btw) views, or he's just some dumb white boy that doesn't know what racism is?

The key question you should aim to resolve is, Are they better than you.

well,  I don't think misogyny actually exists.. 

Women are assembled to fulfill a very different role... and simply assessing them thus has been deemed general misogyny, which I don't think is accurate.

We can accept that women have a CHOICE in their roles,  but they were in fact SUPPOSED to be a certain way, DIFFERENT from men..

From that, they will GENERALLY not perform equivalently in their "UN-natural roles", though there "can be" exceptions..

The song is atrocious beyond belief, not just lyrically, but in all ways; and yes clearly the premise is based on casual racism. I particularly liked how in interviews about the "controversy" around the song, the band described themselves as "multicultural" on the basis that they have a token non-white drummer.

This viral video was posted on many sites, and I saw it a couple days ago before it got taken down.

Personally, I was not offended one bit. You could say that the lyrics are racist, but it's no different than your every day racism or racial jokes. But even if you're sensitive about these kinds of things, the song/video was so fkn bad on many levels, that it should be hard to take something like this so seriously.

The video, the lyrics, the music -- poorly conceived, poorly designed, and poorly executed. How else were these musicians going to get noticed without being over-the-top in some way? Now everyone's talking about whether it was racist or not, etc. So the only arm of their operation that actually works is the public relations end, which got them noticed by trying to offend people. And now they will (hopefully) fade back into obscurity... (makes a magical sounding noise)
