Windows7 N Issues
« on: Sat, 19 October 2013, 08:12:44 »
So I recently reformatted my computer, maybe a little over a week or so ago and I hadn't got around to installing any updates or whatever, so I thought, it's time to do so.

I went ahead and downloaded the Media package for Windows 7 N as that's the version that I have and Windows Media Player is not included, I don't use it but apparently it needs to be installed for certain games to run which makes absolutely no sense to me, but heh, it is what it is.

So I went ahead and installed all of the updates and what not and my main C:/ drive is that of a 120GB SSD drive and prior to this, I had a good amount of space left because all that was installed on said C:/ drive was Adobe Master Collection and Microsoft Office, so I had about a good 60-75GB spare.

I installed all the updates that were available to myself at that time and then I proceeded to install this media package, it started to hang and not install like previously before and before long it stated that I had no space left on my HDD which I thought was incredibly weird as it had plenty prior to this.

I seem to have found the culprit as to where all of my space has gone and vanished from.

But to cut a long story short.

1. What the hell has happened to my SSD.
2. Is there any option to fix this issue short of re-installing the entire OS again.

have you cleaned out all restore points?

try running a disk cleanup on your C: drive

start type in box disk cleanup, it'll pop up showing if there's things you can remove

Just did this, nice suggestion btw, it didn't really cross my mind. But erm, it only cleaned ouit  800mb of space, better than nothing though.

Maybe try this

http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/

It gives you a graphical represenation of what's taking up space, you can find out what part of the windows folder is so huge, my windows folder is only ~26Gb for reference

I'm going to ignore this stupidity.

I actually got this referred to me also by a friend, I launched it and inside I found 3 text files.

One was 32gb, one was 28gb and one was 3gb. Deleted them all and all is well.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

idk bout you.. My "DRIVE" looks like this...

You're looking at a folder... the WINDOWS folder under your C:\ Drive....

So your space didnt' disappear... It was "used up" You probably have some malware or warez installer that generated those huge txt files..

Right I'm going to address this because you're obviously VERY confused.

The 'space' WAS NOT used up what so ever and if you read my previous post that I posted prior to this one, I had 3 files, "One was 32gb, one was 28gb and one was 3gb" that I found using the program provided here called "Space Sniffer".

I have no malwhere or ad-aware/warez etc, It was generated during my Windows updates.

And I provided you a screenshot of my Windows folder because that what was all the space was being used up. C:\Windows

I hope this clears up any confusion, lol.
