Light whites

So, I have a board with MX whites and I want to put lighter springs in. I tried black springs, and didn't see much of a difference. I'm thinking of getting some from originative, maybe 55 or 65 gram (or another). Which do you think would have the best feel? And how much extra resistance would a white have compared to a linear switch due to the tactile bump? Thanks!

I did some testing with White Stems and different springs here. My favorite is Black Springs and White stems. Some people swear by 55g Whites (LastPilot) and 62g Whites (Dorkvader, I think).

So, I should just hold on to it, wait a bit and sell it at a highly jacked up price because they don't make them anymore instead of using it? Sounds good!

Also, what originative spring weight roughly corresponds to blue springs. That weight seems good.

I love my 55g whites, although you might want to make sure you have proper lube with it. My End key sticks sometimes, meaning on the way back up the key gets a delay at the slider since there isn't enough force. All my other keys are perfectly fine though, I just assume some of the factory lube came off during the spring installation.

So yes, 55g works perfectly fine as long as you can do the lube job with it or are just EXTRA careful not to upset any factory lube on the spring installation.

Yeah, I made up a bunch (100 or so) of 62g whites, but I'm waiting for a keyboard to put them in. I think they'll go in my awesome skeldon, when it arrives.

Hmm, I may have to get some slighter springs and give superlight whites a try, though I tend to prefer heavier springs (buckling spring!)

Well, I just ordered some 62 and 67g springs from originative. We'll see how those go. And if I don't like one kind, I can sell them. Or something. I guess it's increasingly impossible to find boards with whites if I want to try both of them in two different boards? I really like how they feel kind of like blues but sound, in my opinion, better.

the 67 feels WAY WAY more-stiffer than the 62 for some reason..


I don't think lighter mx blues/white is necessary..

A well used blue will be down to 55g ..... so you pretty much already know what those feel like..

So the only mod that you can really "feel" would be something like the 45g spring...

the stock spring is ~60.. going to 55 and 62 is kinda silly.

Well, feel seems really subjective, so I guess I'll see. But yeah, I would imagine an ~8% increase could be really different so some and not so much for others.
Right now I'm typing on whites with black springs and I like them but they feel a wee bit too heavy. So I figured 67 might be about right since they were the heaviest available that wasn't equivalent to a heavy cherry spring.

But I do agree with you that 55 and 62 don't make a ton of sense compared to 60 (although if 62-67 is noticeable then so should 55 to 60 be), at least in theory. And I don't want anything too light. But thanks for the tip.
