Mecha Anime
« on: Sun, 03 November 2013, 01:52:01 »
Odd question...but maybe someone can help me out with it. :)

I'm looking for an old mecha anime that I watched 1 or 2 episodes of, back in the late 1990s, early 2000s.

Key points:
-set in feudal japan (stone city walls, a castle keep etc.)
-the main character had a white mech
-the main enemies used dark grey mechs with capes and could cloak (they were basically SC dark templar...)
-everyone fought with melee weapons (or at least that was the main weapon)
-i THINK there was actual infantry fighting, but obviously the mechs were much more deadly
-the pilot of the mech would feel pain as the mech would take damage
-the city of the protagonist is utterly destroyed by the end of the first episode and there's a scene (i think) where the attacking commander's superior *****es at him for destroying the whole place instead of just scaring them

I really don't remember anything else from the show.  thoughts?

nope :/  too much people fighting from what I saw in the trailer.  the show i'm trying to find definitely had main characters fighting each other in their mechs (and no one chopping up mechs with their own sword).

vision of...nope; main character wasn't a girl

ronin warriors; that show isn't serious enough and looks COMPLETELY different

the pilot feeling pain was a VERY important story element.  Now that I think back, i think the protagonist had a special 'ancient' suit and ONLY his suit would make a link between it and a pilot (meaning that all the other fellow soldiers/enemies mechs were just a hunk of armor they could eject from).

the enemies with cloaking mechs is a BIG element as well. one of the end scenes has the protagonist in his mech kneeled in pain after losing the battle when a whole bunch of enemy mechs decloak around him; not sure what happens after this scene.

the animation quality/style was very similiar to gundam wing.

at this point, I'm starting to worry that it got cancelled immediately after showing that first episode :/

EDIT:

wait a minute....i just saw a youtube clip of visions escaflowne.  the mech looks identical to what i remember.   i was like 10 and much more interested in the action than the plot, so i could have just totally forgotten about the girl protagonist... *facepalm*

EDIT2:

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

ya, I just totally forgot about the infantry having giant swords and the girl.  but seeing the enemy mech attack confirmed it; it was VERY unique from anything else that I knew about.

thanks alot!  I knew betting on all the anime avatars here was a good idea :D

Telling you bro.  what you saw way back when... Was  Ronin Warriors..

The rest of that stuff... you've imagined it... pieced together through random recollection of traumatically encoded events when you were tortured in a saudi-prison where the apprentice to the master-torturer was an anime fan watching a plethora of mecha a room over...
