Using different weight switches at home and work

I use browns at work (~7 hours / day) and greens at home (~1-3 hours / day).

Does switching between different weight classes affect other people?  What I mean is:  when I'm 'adjusted' on my browns, the greens are WAY too heavy for me to type properly; when I'm typing heavy enough for the greens, I end up bottoming out on the browns every time (i hate the feeling and sound of bottoming out).  I'm not someone who can adjust their typing patterns during the hour between work and home, so i usually suffer on one board or the either for the week or two it takes to adjust my typing pressure.

Greens are super heavy.. this is fact..

So the difference is quite large.

This is why my home/work keyboard ( monitor, mouse, chair ) is exactly the same.

I cant stand the difference of using different things at home and work.


Case color, keycaps, switches, the only difference is my home KB is a TKL and my work is full sized.

Never had an issue transitioning from different switches (brown to red) and layout (ergo to 60%). Sure seems like the huge difference in actuation force is what's getting you

^ yep, there is absolutely no doubt that's the issue.  i'm just curious if other people have something like my two setups and if they suffer from it.

I quite openly hate green switches, but i wonder if i would have liked them more if I didn't have to keep switching

I regularly switch between Model M, HHKB, MX reds and MX blues (and now MX greens too) at home.  What gets me is the layout, far more than the feel of the switches.

I did this for a while, I was transitioning from greens to reds at different locations and I kept bottoming out the reds. After a while I got used to the change and everything was fine.

Similar setup at the moment, browns at work (8h/d), greens at home (4h/d). No problems switching between them tho, probably because I used to have BS at work and browns at home for a few years I have had a harder time switching from greens to clears interestingly, going to try again after lubing the clears...

I have RF 87U 45 and SSK BS in my home setup and 2 QFR Blue for my office 70 miles away. Like Rowdy said, layout is a bigger deal than the feel of switches.

did anybody have my problem, gave up trying, and then actually switch up their combination?  which boards did you end up with?

I'm getting topre variable + shine 3 blues on the weekend.  never used a topre before, but I imagine this combo is pretty similiar.  although the topre 'mandatory' bottoming out might confuse my hands for a little bit i guess.

I use a RF 87U 45 at work on Win 7 and either RF 87U 55 or HHKB at home on Mac OS X. I like the change in switch feeling once I get home. I just did the dental band mod on my HHKB. Can't wait to do it on my RF boards.


The toughest transition is Ctrl and Command key location for shortcuts for Windows and Mac.

I have been doing greens at work and blues at home.

I received the Leopold FC660M clear MX I bought from qtan yesterday so I'll be using that plus a brown switch Filco Tenkeypad for a while.

The green board is SO good with the cherry profile thick pbt, so good.

I really need to decide what switch to get if I go with one of GONs full sized boards next year.

I like using a lighter switch at work since I know for a fact that I'll be doing a lot more typing. I like the heavier switch at home cuz it can be noisier without any problems and I just do light browsing at home.

This. Using my QFS as my daily driver is alright because I don't type as much as I used to. It makes the greens a far more palatable and pleasant experience. If I was to be typing articles again like I used to, or doing keyboard-intensive work, I'd probably go back to blues to ease my strain. That being said, while the greens were sort of heavy at first, I've already gotten accustomed to them pretty well.

I use whites at work, I used to use browns. I tried to switch back to my browns today and I couldn't do it.

my switch is made between green and blue cherry mx and model m so those differences are not that big deal although green is still much heavier (few minutes to adjust). I had same problem as you when was using blue and brown so i left browns;).
