Choc Mini issues
« on: Tue, 26 November 2013, 20:38:02 »
Got one of the newer Choc Minis with blue switches.

My "Z" key is double-tapping sometimes. I've read about the "debouncing" issues with this board, and changing the debouncing settings has no effect on this problem.
My "W" key stops registering if I wiggle it a little bit while it's held in.
Both of those things heavily affect me when I'm playing certain games, and while they probably sound like minor problems, I can't accept them.
I've popped the caps off and see no visible damage to the switches.
I've also had the board plugged in via usb, and a usb-to-ps/2 adapter (which I've heard aleviates some other issues the Choc Mini has)

My question is, does anyone here have any idea what might be the cause and/or solution to these problems?
It's too late for me to return the keyboard (of course the problems didn't start until it was too late). I'm willing to spend money on another board if I have to, but I thought I should check if there are any solutions. I have no experience soldering or otherwise doing anything advanced with a keyboard, but I may be willing to learn.
After getting the board I started finding a lot of info around about Choc Minis having lots of problems. I wish I had just spent the extra $30 or whatever on a keycool84.

Thanks.

um..... hmmm.... considering your low entry cost.. you might as well just buy another board..

since fixing it in parts + time will be greater than that of direct replacement...

ALTHOUGH.. if you do fix it.. you will gain some useful knowledge for future keyboard projects.

I thought repairing yourself was cheap. Guess that shows how little about it I know indeed. I'm still considering fixing it yourself because, as you said, I could benefit from the knowledge.
Thanks for the advice.

Might be a faulty PCB.

Is it still under warranty?

I have no idea. I got it on Amazon and didn't get any info about a warranty - I really didn't expect there to be any problems aside from what would be obvious within the first week. It's also too late to return to the distributor I got it from.

How long ago did you buy it?

About a month and a week ago. I chose my words poorly - it's probably still under warranty, I just have no idea how to go about that. The writing on the box is in Chinese, and Noppoo's site doesn't even list the Choc Mini.

I had the same issue on two of my keys. I decided to blow some compressed air and initially it didn't work. Then one day I turned it on and there were no issues whatsoever with the keyboard. Bizarre.

Try compressed air into the switch? Slightly depress the switch then spray the air in.

Tried that, no luck.

Also, since I started this thread I've found that my A key is having the same problem as my W key, so it's probably a more fundamental issue. A shame, I like the feel of this board a lot. The other issue is that I only know of the Keycool84 and the KBT Race as alternative 75% boards, and I don't know of good places to get them.
