How much did that cost you? Mind storm seems pretty pricey..

Any idea where I can get sets on the cheap side? Going to physical retailers (walmart, toys-r-us) seems to be really pricey.

Maybe. I'd rather find a storefront that sells them cheaper than retailers, but I may be able to find deals on ebay.

Gotta say, I got this ship working with my monorail.  Never played with legos again afterwards until I started making keys.

Brings back such great memories, a friend of mine had that and I was always so jealous.

These were my pride and joy :)

Lego on the cheap is pretty much an oxymoron. The best deals are like 10 - 15% off.

Not necessarily. I actually just stumbled upon http://www.bricklink.com/ . Their sets seem to be quite a bit cheaper than their retail value in stores. Then again a lot are used, but at the same time a lot are NIB.

There are some compatible clones around nowadays. Was really surprised that Blizzard supported one of them with their WoW franchise (Mega Bloks). Perhaps they let them be more flexible than Lego would. I'd still go for the real thing, though.

I loved my big airport set, but tended to do a lot of mixing of sets to make my own designs. I highly recommend Lego, one of the best toys EVER! You can make almost anything.

I was just going to say bricklink, great if you want pretty much anything and its 10x cheaper than getting it from ebay too, I get lego from time to time even got the Lego star wars advent calendar at the moment, don't so much play with the stuff just collect it even then it just collects dust, but I do enjoy getting the star wars lines, I mean its little blocks of darth vader who couldn't? :p

I loved LEGO as a kid and now that I have kids they seem to have picked up the love all on their own.  Makes me happy since I now get to play with them again and my wife even got me some of the Ferrari race series just for me to build.

What gets me is their love for Star Wars and that series of LEGO.  They are 6 and under and had never seen Star Wars but were immediately drawn to them and now love them along with the LEGO Star Wars movies.  Since I grew up loving Star Wars it makes me happy times two.

What's all this "used to" about? I'm still way into them :D.

I'm in the process of collecting all the SpongeBob Lego sets and any Lego set that is a plane/helicopter/aviation related. My work desk has Spongebob and Patrick in the invisible boat mobile with Plankton stealing the Krabby Patty formula. And a WW2 Allied solder minifig with an M1 carbine and BAR.

Dragonxx21, you could also try a local flea market? The flea markets near me have TONS of Legos.

All of them cost around £30 each and you get £5 back with a VIP club card if you buy from a Lego store, and no the bricklink shipping cost is not included in the price of the item, moist of the time the shipping cost is in the "Splash" for the store but its never usually much, its still a ton cheaper than ebay.

On topic, I used to love legos, but I haven't bought a new set in a few years, primarily due to a lack of funds and interest. The SWAT set from the Lego Movie series looks pretty cool though, with some third-party firearms...

Forgot to add that Brikipedia is the best Lego site ever made. It has all the sets ever made and ones coming up in the next few years. As for sets to get, you might want to look at Lego Architecture  sets, some look pretty sweet!

Nope - she won't let me near them (apart from a little, a very little, help that she needs with one or two of the more complicated ones).

Lego Minecraft is too small for my liking.  It would be better if Steve was the size of a normal Lego person, with the rest of the pieces to match.

Be careful.  This is a dangerous road to travel.  One day its all fun and games with pirates and space explorers, next thing you know you're lying in the gutter with a big yellow bump on your head, and you're not quite sure how you got there.

I've bought a lot of Lego Friends recently.

For my daughter, though.

Sure...they aren't secretly for you.....or anything like that....

Nope - she won't let me near them (apart from a little, a very little, help that she needs with one or two of the more complicated ones).

Lego Minecraft is too small for my liking.  It would be better if Steve was the size of a normal Lego person, with the rest of the pieces to match.

They are actually making plans to creat minecraft sets in minifigure scale o:
