Coolermaster Hybrid Keyboard? Topre?
« on: Wed, 04 June 2014, 06:30:56 »
Do you think this is a Topre keyboard or some other type of switch?

I think the problem is that you don't have proper topre sliders then you have mx ones, so maybe if you had some extra topre sliders you could make it work but really that is just a theory until we have one to test out.

Actually now that I'm reading it, are these officially Topre switches, or CM's version of Rubber Dome Capacitive switches with MX - COMPATIBLE sliders?

Isn't Topre patented?

Technically the switches are electrostatic capacitive switches with MX compatible stems. CM has never said they're "Topre switches".

I would say there is no doubt they are Topre switches just with the different stems. I would say that as part of their partnership they just are not allowed to call them Topre since the stem is different etc.

Carter said so here
Thoughts?

Japanese Topre switches w/ MX compatible stems. -

TKL body low profile body

And unless something drastic changed from the prototype Matt had it had a Topre branded PCB.

There was a video that Carter was doing an interview or preview in. He never once said Topre switch. Instead he said electrostatic capacitive. I can't find the video right now unfortunately.

I also saw that video and brought up the same question but one of the guys, think it was Matt3o, said they are actually Topre switches.

I think I heard somewhere the reason they weren't calling them Topre was just because the average consumer doesn't know what that means and the longhand sounds fancier.

they are topre. the PCB is also topre branded.

I assume you would know but it really sounded like that rep was trying to avoid anything to do with Topre, even when pushed he only talked about it being based on the Topre design. I mean surely they would want to trade off the Topre brand name if they could? or possibly their deal precludes that kind thing?

Here is the thread: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=56838.90

RESPRiT, I think that makes sense, I mean CM are trying to appeal to a broad market.

No problem, I think we are very lucky to be able to teach you anything to do with keyboards :) Speaking of which and a little off topic but why are some types of alps switches called "complicated"? I know nothing about alps and have never even seen one so forgive me if that is a silly question.

Trust me, I'm at the point where I know enough to know I don't really know anything. Gotta learn something new everyday :D

I think that complicated and simplified are colloquial terms for the SKCL/SKCM  and SKBL/SKBM series of switches, respectively. Seems like from 1983 until 1996, the complicated or SKCL/SKCM switches were made. Then there was a redesign and simplified or SKBL/SKBM switches came out in 1996. We can talk more in PMs to keep this thread on topic if you like.

For that you have to throw it @ a high enough warp factor to distort reality, whence you can converge your own will with that of the universe to materialize the keyboard onto your desk..

mmmm.... high enough warp factor is akin to infinite energy is akin to infinite mass...

So if you can move infinite mass of -moneyz-, then @ any speed, it should theoretically have the same effect as moving a small sum of money @ infinite speed..
