CM Storm QuickFire TK, aftermarked LED mod
« on: Sat, 08 November 2014, 13:25:47 »
Hey there,

i recently got my hands on (ebay makes it happen) 2 cheap CM Storm QuickFire TK's.
one is fully illuminated and the other is not.
so after a small teardown i noticed that both share the same PCB there are only like 2 smd transistors + resistor / led's missing.

that makes me wonder, did anyone allready try to upgrade a 'not illuminated' to become a 'fully illuminated' QuickFire TK?

(i did search on that topic, but i had no results. so please dont go ape**** on me)

kind regards,
the newb

if ur kewl with drilling the pcb  then this is actually quite a straightforward mod..

because leds are low power, you can jump it from anywhere on the board without causing too much problems..

and even if you have to drill through some traces Below the switch (if they're in the way), you can just brace the connection with regular copper.

nah, there is no need to.
it's the same PCB with spots where LED's and resistors need to be soldered.

ill see if i can take pictures.

as promised

red = missing transistors (D9_DG / N0J1)
purple = missing smd resistors (680 ohm)
yellow = missing LED's

This makes me wonder if I should grab some TKs off eBay and maybe have someone LED it up and change the switches. Hmmmmmm.

there are, what i think would be, transistors missing (besides the obvious resistor+led combo).
the not illuminated version is missing 1x N0J1 (called Q4) and 1x D9_DG (called Q2)
also they changed Q1 on the not illuminated version to be 1x N5T3 where the illuminated version has 1x N5W1.

im not sure if they all are basically the same npn transistor.
actually i doubt it, because they use 1x N0J1 + 1x N5W1 on the same PCB.

maybe some help on figuring the SMD parts?

*ps: if i try to add attachments, i always get a internal server error, akward.*

** ive modified the post to include some higher res pictures. **

this is only for illumination mode speaking. winlock / fn lock is something different.

Q1 - is supplying +5V to all led's (both versions)
Q2 - D9_DG is supplying GND to the WASD led's (only illuminated version)
Q3 - D9_DG is supplying GND to the keyblock arrow-key led's (both versions)
Q4 - N0J1 is supplying GND to every other key led.

some googling results

D9 = AZ23C5V6
N5 = MMBC1654N5
N5 = MMBC1654N5
N0 = TN0200T-T1

still im quite unsure about the markings after the first 2
