On Zombies..
« on: Mon, 27 October 2014, 01:49:09 »
In case a virus reanimates us.. we'd sustain brain damage (from having died), lose much of our higher planning capacity and precision body control,  which were the ONLY reasons humans are at all effective as hunters.

the bipedal thing is also problematic for biting, because we don't really have a good forward lunge like quadrupeds..

we can RUN forward, but coordinating a successful bite attack is highly difficult.. without the speed..   and the fact that our legs are NOT behind our bodies when we run..

so even if we DO manage a good lunge-bite...  we'd have to get off the ground, again, and follow through..

whereas a quadruped, can orb-walk essentially, and keep pursuit and attacking without resetting..

That's why we have arms - to hold the prey.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

that's gone, coodination is out the window post brain damage form the lack of oxygen.  it can happen extremely quickly

Just run towards the potential victim flailing your arms.  They will become disoriented, perhaps even stumble and fall, trying to avoid your arms.  All you need to is swing one arm around their neck and bite on the opposite side of their neck.

You are mixing zombie types. There are the undead zombies, and then there are virus zombies.

The latter is more realistic as undead zombies are just silly.

Let's say such a virus exist. The better targets would be living humans since their body would be in better shape. As for the brain, the main problem would be memory at least for basic things like body movement. In this case, a living human would be the best. The other thing is that even if a human is affected by a virus that drastically affect the way he behave, the body itself would still need to eat and function as a living human does unless magic is there to help. Muscles need energy, not much any other way around, so eating is a must. In the end, virus affected zombies would be pretty much a human that would act differently than other humans. Apart from this, they would be pretty similar. Maybe the virus could improve/lessen some aspects, but it could not change it THAT much unless the virus manages to change the human body into a totally new species.

The most dangerous aspect of these zombies would be the fact that they are contagious. If you take a virus like Ebola for example, make it less dangerous for the human body (or let's say that it would take months to start being dangerous for the body) BUT that it would start being contagious very fast, this would be crazy. Even crazier if it changed the way humans behave in order to spread faster, but in fact, probably that it would be even more dangerous if the virus shown no sign until a very long time. Just less zombie like.

Ok.. but then we're blurring just how bad it would be to 'be' a zombie..

I suppose what you're after is PERFECT realism zombies..

if that's the case..  than it's probably someone with a cold, and also drank too much the night before..

Nah, we are talking about zombies, so a little creativity won't hurt. The virus would definitely make a human to go in some sort of frenzy/urge for blood or brain or whatever as long as it want's to kill. It could also be deadly in itself after some time, but it's not mandatory. It would also not give this urge to kill other zombies ideally so they last longer.

So the idea is this one:

- New virus that turn a human into a zombie after 1-2 month but the infected human is contagious as soon as he gets infected and shows little to no sign of being infected until he turns into a zombie UNLESS he is bitten by a zombie (fast infection that skips stages).

- For a while, no one knows that such a virus exist and it propagates very fast around the World.

- Then someone finds out about the virus and starts analyzing it. Authorities start to get into alter mode.

- But it's TOO LATE. The first zombies starts popping everywhere and BOOM super zombie apocalypse.

- Now the earth is ruled by animals again since these zombies finally died a few years after killing every human on the planet.

Ok but then we're breaking the canon  for the limiting the delivery of the virus through bites.

because now we've got a virus that only needs contact, and can transfer unbeknownst..

The issue here is the more real we make it, the more it resembles a slightly more advanced form of rabies.

The virus could not skip stages through a bite, I don't think that makes sense assuming we are going with the realism theme here. (If not, fine)

You would have to go through recovering from a bite like that and then suddenly...zombie rage virus action.

Best way would be to spread with little no symptoms, then it would start shattering countries left and right.

The disease that kills us, has to be endemic..   so it's most likely going to be an evolved old disease..   like  SUPER cold...
