If you always pay with the Goods payment why not getting the buyer protection if it is the same price? The only reason I wanted to paid through Goods is to spare the fees.
I think you’re getting confused between 'goods' and 'gift'. There are basically 3 choices here:
1. Pay as 'goods'. paypal charges the seller a 2.9% + 30¢ fee (deducting from the amount). buyer gets some protection out of it, and sellers can relay a shipping tracking number through paypal, to help streamline dispute resolution
2. Pay as 'gift', using a credit card. paypal charges the buyer a 2.9% + 30¢ fee (calculated on top of the amount, so this fee ends up actually amounting to like 0.1% less), no buyer protection
3. Pay as 'gift', using paypal balance or a bank account. no fee, no buyer protection
I advocate always using option #1 for purchases of goods. If you are actually just giving money to a close personal friend, go ahead and use #3.
To make up a concrete example, imagine we want to buy something and the seller wants $100 for it. Three options:
1. Pay $103.30 as 'goods', paypal charges the seller a $3.30 transaction fee, and the seller gets $100. Buyer is protected
2. Pay $100 as 'gift' using a credit card, so paypal charges the buyer an extra $3.20 fee: buyer pays $103.20 and seller gets $100. No protection.
3. Pay $100 as 'gift' using paypal balance / bank account. No fees. No protection.
