K-Dramas do any of you actually watch this ****?
« on: Tue, 24 February 2015, 18:57:25 »
Full disclosure, i watch Kdramas through osmosis (i'm in the room and it's on) cuz of my wife, i have a monthly subscription to Viki, cuz you get no commercials (for my wife).

The Kdramas that are actually good, can be counted on 1 hand.

Why would anyone watch this ****, if you're not a girl?

For reference these Kdramas are as good as Spanish Telenovelas that you see on Univision.

Basically.. Kdrama is for women..

You have to "want to believe"  what's going on,  and let it carry you..

If you try and think about it for even a second, or analyze WHY anyone would behave the way that they do..

The illusion comes apart, and you realize you're just trying to avoid doing the work that you were suppose to be doing, but are instead trying to procrastinate by watching k-drama.

Asian drama is terrible.
I wouldn't really say American shows are necessarily better but Asian the plot structure of Asian drama is so predictable from the misemphasis of scenes, long winded explanations that take 10 minutes longer than they should, to all the noises Asians make - you know the oh the ahs the get it!, to the pop song that accompanies an otherwise bland scene, to the competent woman struggling under a male dominated workplace. ... anyways what I'm basically saying is Asian drama are like 24 without the production values and the character dialogue.

The problem is the structure of these Kdramas, don't get me wrong, they'll start out good for 1 or 2 eps, highs and lows for 6-8eps, then at eps 10 it will be UTTER ****. it'll be the worse "fill in the trash" random drama **** just to fill in 1 hour of television. Until they get to the eps before the series end (usually eps 16 or 20) and they wrap **** up and ppl are all happy happy worse than Disney vomit.

Why am i commenting on this? this is probably how a housewife feels when she's forced to watch NASCAR. "so these idiots drive around in a circle 500x, and when a women finally drives a car they say it's unfair cuz she weighs less than them and has an advantage"?

recent drama that didn't make me puke, Misaeng, good acting, relatable, there are gems to be had.

What is a kdrama? Does that stand for Korean soap opera?

As I am older now, I am inclined to think drama is for women too.

Just Korean programs in general fail at keeping my attention.

I did watch one "drama" called Misaeng (or Incomplete Life) though. That was hugely popular despite being non-romance.

Lanx pretty much nailed it though, it gets ****tier as you keep watching. They try to get creative and fall back to their old cliches

Last drama I watched was IRIS and only because my ex girlfriend forced me to watch it with her. Thankfully she chose one with a bit more action and guns and stuff blowing up LOL!

Funny thing is, the professor I was a research assistant to back in the day looked like her doppelganger and I had a huge crush on this professor noona. Sadly she was 12 years older than me and married =/

yes, there is also J-Drama...

for Japan drama.

Very rarely you'll see C-Drama, which is right now the worst piece of trash of all asian dramas, this includes Taiwanese Dramas as well.

Pretty much in order of:

i could watch this if i gouge out one eye...
to holy **** end it!, god damn end it!

K-drama
J-drama

C-drama

again C-dramas are bottom rung **** right now, i'd never bet anyones poop that there has been a good chinese drama in 10 years.

But they'll always be at least 1 or 2 good K and J dramas.

Let's be honest here.

How many of us really watch dramas for anything other than the pretty girls and where applicable, pretty girls in half-decent action scenes?

I'd be fine watching ****ty Taiwanese dramas as long as Sui Tang or Chen Yi Han were in them.  :blank:

We were actually pretty close too LOL... less professional and more like friends (we still keep in touch). Even while I was working for her I called her noona instead of professor haha

Oh well. I had a GF back then (now also an ex) so I wouldn't have even tried to copy the dramas and steal her from her husband lolll (plus that particular ex was prettier  and her husband was a super wealthy Adonis-type surgeon - I would have stood no chance...)

For reference these Kdramas are as good as Spanish Telenovelas that you see on Univision.
Spanish-language telenovelas are amazing, what are you talking about? How could you not love shows with titles like “The Wild Filly” or “Woman with an Aroma of Coffee”? (Those were two from ~15 years ago, and lead to the fabulous mashup title “Woman Who Smells Like a Horse”; I’m sure more recent ones are equally amazing.)

Seriously though, these kinds of shows (from whatever country) are a fantastic way of learning a new language: the dialog is always totally predictable, you don’t really need to understand anything at first to figure out the basic storyline, and you can learn all kinds of important phrases like “get out you cheating bastard” or “the family will disown you if you marry that girl”.

And on that note, can anyone recommend a good drama in Mandarin Chinese? I’ve tried watching the first episode of about three now, and none of them is quite as amusing as I’d prefer. Preferably something with English subtitles, as my Chinese is still at about the level of a two year old.

This is not possible, but i believe there are people who would torture themselves this way. Most recent horribad drama as an example Birth of a beauty. Basically a Fatty McFatty Fat got 10million dollar surgery to look like this
91920-0

Her acting scales with how pretty she is, so if she's a 10/10 her acting is just as bad, maybe even worse than nothing, b/c the real actors/actresses around her have to try so hard to make the show legit.

my wife watched the show b/c of the male lead, she liked his other dramas, she could not finish this piece of **** drama. And she tried, every week a new eps got released, she wanted to give up, but gave it another chance b/c it was so damn popular on viki, maybe it's getting good?

no.

It was getting worse

actually i found the main female villian, pretty good

and the main fatty as well

however the main girl was dreadful, my wife tried to fast forward all her scenes and maybe the show would get better that way, just so she could maybe finish the series. Not really, that dreadful thing of an actress was polluting too much screen time.

BUT i guess ppl liked looking at her anyway.

i never said 4-5, i said there'd be at least 1-2 good k and j dramas a year, how are you ****ing up numbers so bad?

and again reading is an issue for you, i don't watch em, it's osmosis, i've probably seen about 50 k and 50 j dramas in this way, about 10 or 15 would be good, if not bearable.

Osmosis..

So there's a large concentration of "females"  in the household,   and you're getting all the estrogen fueled K-drama feeds because you're the only -space- of low estrous-concentration..

Tp4 doesn't read ..  Tp4  interprets ..  Tp4's also always more correct than the author..
