Question re Leopold FC660C
« on: Mon, 18 May 2015, 14:56:44 »
I have been reading this forum for a few months. This led to too many keyboard purchases.... but I have never posted anything on this forum before.

Recently I bought a Leopold FC660C (white) which is now my favorite keyboard. Unfortunately the backspace key does not always function properly. When I press the key it sometimes does not immediately comes back up. It seems that this key does not slide smoothly or that there is some sort of stickiness in the keyboard (but I am pretty sure that I have not spilled any liquids). Does anybody know what I could (try to) do to fix this?

My thoughts (after googling / reading this forum):
1. open up keyboard and check whether there is anything sticky in or under the rubber dome.
2. open up keyboard and lube the stems and stabilizers from the topre switch.

I would prefer trying to fix this problem first without dissasembling the keyboard. Any ideas? Thanks.

I remember seeing a thread in the last month or so, asking about "lubing" topre switches. The answer was a warning to NOT lube topres. I don't remember the specific reason why however, you'll need to use the search function to track it down.

If you haven't already, I'd pop off the keycap from backspace and enter, and compare the two visually and mechanically (by testing push/release directly on the switch stem).

Answering this on a Leopold fc660c, so I feel your pain. :\

Sounds like the rubber dome is not 100% aligned, have you opened up the keyboard?

Thanks for your replies.

The issue with the backspace has improved somewhat. However, problem still occurs a few times per working day. If it does not improve any further, I will open up the keyboard to check if the rubber dome is properly aligned.

I have never heard of the problem of lubing topre keyboards... I'm hesitant on that thought.
