CPU upgrade necessary? AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
« on: Wed, 11 November 2015, 16:10:18 »
Hello.

Not long ago GTA V was released on PC. That's why I upgraded my GPU to an AMD R9 390.
I considered the rest of my computer as still good enough to get 60fps on recent games.

Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE @ 3.6 Ghz
GPU: AMD R9 390 8GB
RAM: 16GB DDR3
PSU: 650W Corsair

I played GTA V at consistent 55-60 fps, so I was really statisfied with not upgrading my CPU and Mainboard (more money for keyboards  )

But now ... honestly ... I never thought this could happen:

First: I bought the new Call of Duty, Black Ops 3.  :-X
The last time I played CoD was in 2010. I consider every CoD game after Black Ops 1 as crap.

Second: The computer, I played motherf***ing GTA V on a solid 55 fps framerate, is not able to produce a framerate of even 40 fps in this POS game on LOWEST SETTINGS.
I'm playing BO3 on POTATO-GRAPHICSETTINGS and cannot even get a solid 60fps .... this is unreal!

My question is:
Is the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.6 Ghz really so outdated, that it is legit for BO3 to not run smoothly
 OR
is BO3 just a ****ty console port game that does not use PC ressources properly?

Should I upgrade the Phenom II X6 1090T? I never could have imagined upgrading my hardware for a goddamn Call of Duty game ... is this real life?
Or should I just dash the game?

I haven't been following too closely, but I seem to recall hearing Black Ops 3 is a just an awful port. Like Arkham Knight level pc performance. That processor is an older one, but I really can't see it having any problems with newer games, especially with that video card. I'd blame the game before I blamed the hardware.

This.

Blops is a terrible port on the PC.

My first impression is..

This kid bought Call of Duty,  so that's honestly the biggest problem..

Hahahha..   but yea,  this game isn't cpu intensive,  I think i read somewhere you need 32gb of ram and a GPU with lots of ram like 6gb or 8gb

No need just yet. Very few games are CPU bottlenecked, even on that CPU. I know since I have one, too :)
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

We have to stop using the term... Bottle neck,  because Everything is always bottlenecked at all times at any specifications of the hardware..

It's an imaginary line..

THe point is,   Intel runs games better, because the Higher IPC raises the "minimum frames per second"    which translates to a smoother gameplay experience with less stutter and time dilations.

I won't disagree with that, Intel are better for games, but my minimum framerate is still in the "smooth" range for me, so... no jerky, no problem.

welll... what you perceive as jerky is also "relative"..

We can only say ,  that FOR the SAME PRICE..  INTEL produces the better experience, because the difference between a "complete"  intel vs amd build is only around $100
