In Tp4's memory.. it's between Tater Tots and Chili...

Taco day was alrite, but not as good after they stop letting you abuse how much taco-meat you loaded in the shell.

What was ur fav..

I loved it, but the kids at school would always make fun of me and call it cat food.

I only had the rectangular pizza in elementary, but afterwards they were round..

I still remember there was this latino girl who would eat 5 slices of the rectangle pizza.. It was frightening..

School lunches were a bit of a luxury back in the day for me.  I will say the occasional cookies I used to get that tasted and looked like a stick of butter went into each one were a hit.

In elementary school, my favorite was the slushies and ellio's pizza.

Middle school, we had awesome bagels which I usually had along with some chocolate milk.

High school had a lot of options...we had Smart Mouth calzones and cookies...which were awesome but costs like $5 for everything :/ , regular lunch was so much cheaper.

In-N-Out at a school...super jelly demik.

our schools cookies were hit or miss

they were either over-baked and crunchy (not cool) or nice and chewy

when they were chewy i'd get two or three packages of them, they came in packs of three

Nah we had cartons first then later the bags.

But they eventually went back to cartons because people were stabbing people with the straws that went with the bags.

And we never had any of this fancy food everyone is mentioning.

I think dessert was almost always pudding (out of those big cans) or applesauce.

I don't even remember fruit or salad being an option.

them big poofy square slices of pizza.

The turkey and gravy with the mashed taters

AND

the cheeseburgers/hamburgers with lettuce and pickles...

COINCIDENTALLY, I've found that the AM/PM burgers taste EXACTLY like the school lunch burgers...
So for them i need a pick me up days, i'll go grab a couple, cut up some lettuce and add some pickle slices and be in in my happy place while I wolf them down :p

The brand of pickles make a big difference when it comes to school lunch memories though..

For example,  the School yellow mustard tastes like shoprite yellow mustard,  if you get the heinz or other expensive brand, they taste completely different.

I never ate school lunches in middle school. I brought my own food but I would always grab the ice cream bars.

High school I left the public school system :( $7 for chicken strips.

Did any of you have "Market Day"?  Basically a fundraising company that sells various foods once a month?  You order through a brochure and pick it up at the school.

The company is defunct - or was bought out and now only sells chocolates.

This thread brought back so many memories. At my high school, every other Wednesday, the school would serve spaghetti in a small rectangular tray tin covered with plastic wrap. It was the only day that people would buy school lunch and we would occasionally wait the entire lunch time just to get our food (usually the kids opted for the bar lunches like pizzas, chimichangas etc).

I still love it and miss it. The ground meat reminds me of taco bell beef. I've been trying to find a place that would recreate this childhood masterpiece, but most pasta places I've been to recently serve fresh pasta with real meatballs.

I think the secret might be skirt steak, skirt steak is the cheapest cut i believe..

But I'm assuming they use steak at all.. which perhaps they 're not even doing.. hahahaha

Could be some sort of soy protein + left over tendon meat

daily offerings at my school included burgers, (chicken and vegie were options also) hot dogs, quesadillas, salads, sandwiches and wraps, plus they had the daily meal

the quesadillas were killer, they were my go-to when I didn't like the meal of the day

I really doubt it's skirt steak. I grew up in a middle-class/bordering-poor area. The running joke was that the meat in the school lunches were lower grade than what they used in pet food.  :))

My mom used to draw something awesome on my brown bag every day. She knew I was super into herpatology and reptiles so she would look in my reptile books and draw different species of snakes and lizards each and every night before going to bed and write the species and a little fact about it. What a great mom. I'm going to call her right now :D

My mom works in the school district's food services area, so I've been getting school lunch hook ups for years - in school and what she would bring back home. I got free ice cream and stuff at lunch lol

I asked her to stock up on the godly rib sandwiches - the best, up there with the circular pizzas with the mustache man on em
