O-Rings

I have a question. Massdrop is selling different O-Rings sizes (1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0mm). Is here a specific O-Ring size at is specific for a Cherry MX Switch? Like, Cherry reds best 2.5mm or Cherry blues 1.5mm O-Ring and so on.

buy a pack of each and try them all..

the number they put on there doesnt mean much because these things are soft, and depending on how much they end up stretching once you put them on,   the feel and final-clearance is unpredictable.

bunch of other choices on amazon... I'm not disagreeing w/ tp4issues certainly but in theory thicker o-rings will affect feel more than narrower ones and will reduce travel by a greater amount also..

for me .2mm is perfect dampens enough sound to keep my wife from complaining about my filco and doesn't seem to affect feel that much to me.

i own mx-red and mx-brown keyboards ...I have used .2mm on both types works for me.

You can also get them for way cheaper on ebay, although you'll have to wait for them to ship and you're limited on thickness and they come with a mystery hardness.  Here's one option.

If you're looking for more info on o-rings though, check out Lpwl in the vendor area and take a look at some of his info.  Hardness is another variable to keep in mind.  The manufacture and profile of the keycaps you plan on using with the o-rings should be considered as well.

I've had good experience with these 99c ones on eBay.

They take awhile to arrive but I think they work just as well as the $15 ones from WASD.

It's as good a place to start as any.  There's a lot of personal opinion on feel with o-rings.  I'd encourage you to try and get a few different sizes and try them.  I'm using 1.5mm with my OEM and Cherry profile caps and 2.5mm with my DSA caps.

there's no best.. buy a couple of different sets, and you'll find out for yourself.

Generally speaking, thinner it is the better it feels (but louder), thicker it is the quieter it is (but feel mushier).

So you find a balance point where you can accept the feel vs sound.

Personally I've only tried the WASD first gen o-ring which I believe are 0.4 mm which feels horrible to me, I haven't try the 0.2 mm o-ring yet.

And I would add that what profile your keycaps makes some difference too. For my OEM profile caps, I prefer the thicker WASD rings. But for my Cherry profile caps, I use the thinner rings.

So I agree with whomever said it above, get a few different thicknesses and try them out. In the end, like everything, it comes down to personal preference.
