Australia, despite widespread n00qular contamination (from mining),  does not have any standing reactors.

Currently weathering massive heatwave, their world on fire.

As climate change erupts all over the world, reactors have to be shut down because the cooling water would be inadequate. 5-10 degree could require shut down in many places.

Not a fun procedure, and it's not like computer shut down.  Relays are often very old, and because they're mechanical, they may or may not reset properly. Same is the case post earthquake, relay position can not be guaranteed.

If reactor cooling is a issue, then a way to get colder water is to draw it from deeper where the sun doesn't penetrate. I don't see any way out of the climate emergency. there are so many different things stacked against the earth, methane release, phosphorous scarcity, pollinator extinction, not least of which are ourselves. it's sad that even the ascetic few who live in a sustainable way will be punished for the crimes of the rest of us. some of the conspiracy crowd says that the us gov is diverting trillions of dollars to black budget underground tunneling programs. maybe they hope to ride out the chaos in safety in bunkers. I have no idea what they would eat after their food reserves run out though.

I've contemplated a fallout bunker for the longest time.  It just isn't practical.   Resetting humanity has significant hurdles BEYOND surviving fallout.

We also do not possess the technology to build such enduring structures in the first place.  A slight leak or rust or mild seismic event could compromise the entire structure, and become a death trap.

Without modern manufacturing capacity, even nuts and bolts will be difficult to come by, and these things degrade.

A billionaire bunker might survive a few generations, but depression, radiation, sociopathic behavior developing in such close spaces could easily get everyone killed.

On the outside you're a billionaire, everyone listens to you, stuck with a family on the inside, you're just an old guy and a wife who's growing increasingly tired of you bossing her around,  Stabs you in the middle of the night.

She gets sick, dies, you have 12-15 yr old kids now missing most of their education and eating all the foods, These dumb kids become obese and know nothing of being human and future planning, They'll probably die of diabetes.

The way Radiation works is, it's VERY VERY persistent. 1000 years minimum for any sizable reduction.

Jpn is doing well on the coverup, but it is actually quite possible that they will have ~300 years of extremely high cancer rate, and possibly collapsed society.  It's only been 8 years since fukushima daichi, 30,000% increase in childhood thyroid cancer.

They won't even tell people what's going on, The consequence of panic may be worse than owning up to the truth.

The trouble is, the ONLY THING that can produce the unified workforce to actually solve the challenges, requires truth.

The longer they attempt to hide behind information blackout, the worse their eventual outcome.  Fukushima is actually way way worse than Chernobyl. ~50% of Jpn land mass is contaminated.

The entirety of the cleanup they did is for show. It's frankly impossible to clean up. The majority of the contaminated land area is Forest/ Hills/ Mountains.
