I canīt decide between red and blue switches, help
« on: Sat, 01 February 2020, 13:41:08 »
Hello!

Iīm new in the world of mechanical keyboards. To start, I bought the Redragon USAS (with Outemu switches). I bought the one with blue switches, but they sent me the one with red switches.

I love it, but I wonder if the blue ones would like me more than the red ones. I canīt try the blue ones bc where I live nobody sells mechanical keyboards (I bought it from internet).

Should I return my keyboard and ask for the one with blue switches?
I know that the choice is personal, but I couldnīt try blue switches (bc where I live nobody sells mechanical keyboards, I bought it from internet), and if I return the one that they sent me, I wonīt get it back.

I play games every now and then, but I want it mainly for typing (Iīm learning to code).
Some people said me that "blue switches leads to inconsistent and unevenly weighted clicks".

I donīt know, pls help me to choose if I return this or not  :'(

I have tried both red and blues. I choose blues. I do not play games at all.

Why do you choose blues? better typing?

Blues, no question, though I'm not even sure if I have used Outemus before. I probably have, since I have at least 2-3 boards with Cherry clone blues. Reds are nice for gaming because they're light and quick without any click/bump. Some do prefer tactiles or even clickies for gaming, but I do believe that, like myself, it is most common to like some light linears for that task.

For typing, I don't know that many people end up going for linears, though there are some in the Cherry MX Black crowd I think. That's another route too, I suppose, if you end up being in that minority. You could swap all of the springs for something closer to black and have some super heavy linears, but I don't know that people that like those are that common.

For typing, having some tactility, and even the click, is nice for most people. Cherry MX, and clones, aren't really an ideal switch anyway, but you're just getting into the game. You'll grow in time.  ;)

I do not think so. Both good for typing. I just like blues. Gamers would prefer red, as I understand.

Thank you! I think that Iīll change it for blue switches. I like the sound of that switches (although the red make a really nice sound too).
I hope I donīt regret,  though I doubt that that will happen.
By the way, red ones are great too!

blue is smoother. Red is a bit scratchy even broken in, it's more scratchy than blue.

But that's no indicator of better or worse.

Eventually, you'll probably own both.  the decision you're making right now is Which one FIRST.

This.
Should it turn out that you're not a keyboard gourmet, in which case it won't really matter what board you choose, because only half of the deal is having switches of a decent quality under your fingertips and the other half is being used to typing on that particular board. You will grow accustomed to the keys and when you like reds already, but can imagine that blues feel even better, then you can't really go wrong.
In the office, I don't use switches that are clicky due to noise reasons. I can type silently on a brown or red switch board when I concentrate and don't bottom out the keys. That might come in handy when talking on the phone while typing. Blue switches won't give that option.

Should you, OTOH, find yourself being sucked into this particular hobby, you will own clicky, linear and tactile switches sooner or later and buy and sell keyboards, always hunting the magic bullet of 'the perfect switch'. You will soon realize that the keycap also plays a role. And the layout. It'll be a deep well for all your spare cash.

Blue switches are better for typing , they're less scratchy and can be modded into jailhouse blues.
