Question about this forum's notifications
« on: Wed, 22 April 2020, 18:12:06 »
Is there a way to turn on (email) notifications only if someone quotes you? I don't want to get notified of every reply after I reply to a thread, just if someone quotes me, so I can view it and know if I want to respond. I'm looking through the notification settings and either I'm blind or there's no way to do this. I only see "replies", "moderation", "replies and moderation" etc.
Thanks.

That's an interesting idea. I hadn't even thought of that, and I'm not sure that that's possible. I basically turned off email notifications entirely, immediately.

I just have my profile set up to watch whatever I have commented on, so it silently keeps track of updates on here. I usually have a Geekhack tab open and I'll refresh my watched list from time to time. If I end up with threads that seem to be getting too much attention that I'm not all that interested in, I'll cancel notifications for that specific thread.

I'm not sure if you would like that as an alternative or not.

I mean, "actual" replies (aka someone quoting my reply) is top priority for me to view, since the person who is replying is referencing me directly. IMO it's a super QoL change that benefits people who reply to a lot of different threads. I don't want to receive a notification every time someone literally just replies to the thread, especially if the thread is a hot topic, and especially if I don't check that thread often. Just wish there was that option to receive a notification every time someone quotes you, or whether if you're watching the thread or not, if that's easier.

Yeah, I understand all that. I just know I would still rather do it the way that I do, because people may not always quote you even if they're responding to something that you have said.

Maybe someone that's been here forever, or has dug up and down the site's settings will know of a way, but I'm not thinking that's possible.

He seems to speak almost entirely in memes/jokes. I think the times he does take anything seriously is a break of character.
