I don't know the facts, but maybe they decided they going to go together...  :'(
95 and 63 years old.

Carbon monoxide makes people very sleepy and lose consciousness before suffocating them.
Their deaths should have been painless, so there's at least that.

Even sadder discovery than we could have imagined. People are hypothesizing Hackman discovered his wife's body, and kept forgetting and rediscovering her until his heart gave out.

Either that, or the dog did it

Indeed. Carbon monoxide poisoning might have been a less bad end.

Suffering from Alzheimers and heart-disease, with his wife the only person to take care of him.

The dog in the kennel apparently also died from starvation/dehydration, because it was locked in and she wasn't there to take care of it.
