Strange, I didn't see that in the news here at all.

So what is he exactly? A religious nutjob? A nihilistic fundamentalist? Is this even a thing?

Most of all, it's a 'merrican sensationalist news story about a weird "nut-job", published mostly for its dark entertainment value; and to make people feel confirmed in their preexisting beliefs of superiority and that the world is a dangerous place.

Something else to get readers engaged in, something simple and clear-cut when you don't have to tip-toe around issues that people have widely polarised opnions about, such as the Trump administration or the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Well, from the mainstream media's perspective it's certainly that, as they ARE the defacto propoganda machine.

I can understand suicide, for people in deep despair, but what I cannot comprehend is the compulsion to "take other people with you" ....
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Did some reading.  His world view is shallow and incomplete, but this may be due to his age.

In anycase, the primary justification he's used for his specific violence is that there is no real point in conducting "life" any further, by the superficial rules of "modern society."

While this is correct, he does not take into account that the rules are what they are for humans to move past the dunbar's number. They're not designed for establishing any truth or justice, they're designed to facilitate "human-centric" efficiency. There's alot of imprecision and flexibility in the language and ultimately enforcement of rules, rendering them merely guidelines. We don't have a true system of law. So, it is an immature perspective to assign blame in the event of failure of loose non-binding social contracts.

His logical path is correct, in that, following existing "prevailing" prescriptions will indeed bring about the end of our species, but, the adversarial network (what we are), is how ANY-system figures out what the next move is, right OR wrong. (Today, mostly wrong)

Him casting his vote in the way that he did, is ineffectual.

A primary mistake exists in how he's defined goals (p05t m0rta1ism).  You can not define a goal as "death." That is against the nature of how any lifeform is constructed. We are only constructed to further life.  As a lifeform, we only have 1 charge. The root of any and all problems exist in the scope-of-empathy of the individual and of his dunbar group.  We still behave like small tribes, when our mass has exceeded the capacity of that level of cohesion. We still put ourselves, our skin color, our families, our language, our town, our state, our country, our species at the center of all things. When we're really just 1-singular type of Metastasized-cancer-fleas on earth's back.

The fact of the matter is, we THINK / believe, we're inventive, smart, highly capable, 've created this "great stuff of mechanical civilization." That is a childish stupid thought.  Everything in the short 10,000 years, agriculture, computers, engines, flying machines, are all NATURAL extensions of our existing-DNA which NATURE has crafted over Billions of years.  That complexity given the correct surface conditions Auto-matically becomes "civilization."

The Lifeforce of EARTH, over Eons, did all the damn work, and here we are basking in our own Hubristic Farts, singing to ourselves, not giving credit or CARE to the Planet which we owe the entirety of our being to.

Human DNA is numerically only 1.4% different than chimp/bonobos. It could've easily been any of the apes or agile marsupial, FATE gave us the lucky shot, and we're royally screwing it up.

As a nation, America refuses to wake up to the fact that we've been a child race stabbing old people all over the world who know better than us.

Now, America is aging rapidly, and it doesn't have the energy to go around stabbing old people. And the old people catch a breath to hand out some spankings.

As a species, Humanity has damn near drained the earth of all blood, and poisoned it with toxic chemicals. It's Easy, to kill, animals, yourself / others.  It's so much harder to live with Maximum-empathy.
