That's the only one of the few I haven't played yet. Must give it a go some time. Think I read the Land games were developed by a different team with different approach to physics/game feel.

It's totes against the grain,  makes you feel like those emo characters in the movies.  Fun game.

Super Mario Land 2 and 3 are the bee's knees. I haven't played either in ages though, but I definitely remember the jumping being rather floaty. The Game Boy was one of my favorite systems. That reminds me I need to get a stupid triangle screwdriver so that I can fix the speaker in mine.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

Yea the speakers basically rust out and stop working. Good thing they're super cheap on ebay.

Also, think super hard about NOT doing the IPS mod.  While it does improve playability as a mobile, it ruins the classic look/ nostalgia, using an over head lamp, hunched over, your back hurts but you can't stop playing because you've only got 8 minutes before bed time.

The only mods that're sort of necessary are repair components, like if you've got worn out silicone, or scratched screen cover. The glass ones are quite nice.

I'm hesitating whether I should get the Lithium rechargable batteries, they're lighter and have much more stable voltage for sdcard Flash carts which consume more power.

What's cool is you can have the entire library of gbcolor and gb on the same flash cart.

Make sure to get a reasonably fast sd card from reputable dealer, lots of fake out there.

Never thought this was a hard game. Much easier than SML1. Wario's castle is pretty easy as far as those era of mario games goes. A lot easier than Mario 3 or Super Mario World.

Grind the intro level (the auto scrolling one) to get max lives.

Great flavour in this game. Easily my favourite game boy game.

If TP liked SMWII you should try Wario Land II. IMO super underrated and one of the best looking GB games ever made.

I forgot about that one. It's the one in the series I never played. I should track down a copy.

Also, I just started playing SML 2 to try it out again. For some reason, my Game Boy Pocket was playing like a champ until I turned it off for a break, and now won't turn on half the time.  :( EDIT: I think the power switch is just having trouble making contact. I firm shove seems to turn it on every time.

I've been thinking about getting a GB pocket for the GB games, cuz the screen is bigger.

I only have the GBC, you can put it into monochrome, but the screen is still smaller.

I play on the GB Pocket only because of nostalgia, but, in terms of quality, the GBC's screen is way better albeit slightly smaller. The original GB and GB Pocket have a lot of motion blur, to the point that it's neigh impossible to tell what moving objects are; that, and they're quite a bit less reflective (read: darker). The GBC has an odd interlacing effect when scrolling fast vertically, but that's the only down side I've noticed with it.

I was wondering about the interlace effect, Is it interlace effect or is it because the pixel pitch are at that threshold where the eye is transitioning between being able to and not being able to see the pixel edges.

If you move the GBC up and down with your hands, on a solid color patch that isn't moving, you can still see the interlace effect on medium color tones.

For example, the main splash screen of tetris DX,  the blue surrounding the tetris name, you can see it there, but if the game boy is still, you don't see it.  Or the fish screen when it comes up

Hmm, I'm not sure what causes it, but I do doubt it's actually interlacing; I just didn't know how else to describe the effect.

I am at Wario's Castle now, and the whole game has been pretty easy up to this point, but this last section is hard! It wouldn't be that bad if I didn't have to beat it all in one go. If I die at the boss, I have to start at the beginning of the level!

Well, it took about 20-30 lives, but I eventually beat Wario's castle. Now to find and play all the secret stages.

BTW, a far superior option to a Worm Light is wearing a headlamp while playing! You can even switch to the red light to make it look like a Virtual Boy if you so desire.

It's very refreshing,  mario has become too same-y.

I remember having this cart and playing it on a French exchange school trip. And I remember at some point the artwork had been embellished by someone with a gold marker pen. And I remember some time later not being able to find it. But I don't remember the game at all.
