Ghetto greens vs ergo clears
« on: Thu, 22 March 2012, 15:08:19 »
So I wasn't that impressed with clears.  However, when you do the ergo clear mod the tactility is greatly increased and it feels very nice.  It was really surprising to see that the tactile bump actually increased a lot with a lighter spring.  I would actually prefer it if the original clears felt that crisp LOL.  I think it actually feels better than my Topre 45g, though not quite as nice as my 55g.  I kind of want to try making ghetto greens with the leftover springs from the clears, but the blue board I have is plate mounted and I don't really feel like desoldering unless it's worth it.  Obviously the greens would have a noise, but how else does it compare?  I actually prefer a heavy switch so the increased actuation force is not an issue for me.  Sorry if this is a repost.  I found a bunch of info on ergo clears but not so much on ghetto greens other than how to mod a board to them.  Anybody here with ergo clears tried ghetto greens and have some feedback regarding the similarities and differences?

Greens are ~65g, so ghetto greens are a blue with a black spring.  A blue with a clear spring may not be a noticeable difference, but definitely something to try.  Once you get over 60g, you may as well check out Alps keys, as well as the newly "rediscovered" cherry white switch.

One of the first things I'm going to do with a Phantom is try green, white, blue stem + black spring, and blue stem + clear spring all mixed together in the alphanum area. Mmmmmm....

That would be the typing equivalent to driving on an old roman cobblestone road.. in an F1 car.

I was under the impression that clear springs are stiffer than blacks, is that not the case?

Does nobody here have both?  I guess I'll have to stop being a lazy ass and just break out the sodomy iron to find out how ghetto greens are in comparison to ergo clears.
