Thermaltake Meka G1 or Quickfire pro
« on: Sat, 15 September 2012, 09:38:31 »
Hi,

I am new to this thing, and locally i have 2 possible choices:

- Therrmaltake meka g1 with blacks
- Quickfire pro, i believe they are browns.

I will use it mainly fro gamming and some programing at home.

What would be the best choice?

Thanks

Build quallity: Meka G1
Switches most likeable for newcomer: quickfire pro

I'd probably try the meka g1...and then the pro. I don't really like linear switches but given it's your first board the g1 has good reviews.

Seriously if they sell the pro they surely have a rapid?

Where do you live out of interest?

What are you typing on at the moment? Assuming you're currently using a regular rubber dome keyboard, you might want to consider the force you use when typing. Black switches will likely require more force than your current keys, while Browns will require much less than your current keys.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

Doesn't matter they're both costar. Same stuff.

Hi I live in Brazil and theres really not many options unless I import a board, to wich I am scared it arive with defects and the shipping alone is usually $50.

I like the meka and would buy the rapid if it had the number pad, the pro just looks "fishy" (quickfire design is 'better') and I was afraid of its build quality.

I currently use a crap rubber dome with nothign really special about it.

OH, you meant the quick fire PRO, sorry, that board is NOT made by costar. it is produced by iONE...

Sorry about the confusion, Yea if your only choice is between the G1 and the quickfire PRO, then you should get the G1.

the iONE made pro is a piece of ****, along with everything made by iONE, this includes the defacto failure Razer keyboards, and the really ****ty K60 and K90 keyboards which are both completely defective and unusable.

Though generally speaking as your first switch, brown usually have higher success rate.  I think black is probably the least popular switch out of the 4 common switches (blue, brown, red, black).  Though some people do like black above all switches, but the majority find it too hard.

However like others have said, Meka G1 do have better build quality over QuickFire Pro.

Personally I'd pick QuickFire Pro for the brown switch, but I guess it's up to you :P

the iONE made pro is a piece of ****

I'm gonna have to disagree with this, my QF Pro was very solid and has a nice feature list.  But I'd still take the Costar-based Thermaltake over an iOne.
