OCN Ducky DK9008G2 PRO on sale - Good Deal?
« on: Fri, 21 December 2012, 11:37:06 »
Now that I've been using a mechanical kb at home for a while, I 'need' to get one for the office.

In deciding on the next board to get, the Ducky DK9008G2 Pro came up as a possibility. Most places I've found it for sale have been about ~$120 plus shipping.

I came across tankguys.com selling the same Ducky but as an overclock.net edition for $90 plus shipping. Am I right in my reading of it that its just has the OCN logo on the keyboard and the rest is the same as a generic Ducky? Any reason not to by this version? Any reason to avoid this vendor?

New Duck quality is generally good..

But..... remember, no matter what, the backlite keycaps will become patchy and disgusting in time. If you often have dry hands, it'll fade even faster due to the friction.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get Transparent caps. They look GREAT when your keyboard is clean.. But keyboards get DIRTY. dead skin cells. dust. some hair.... and it looks Barffffffffffff.....

I bought a used set of number pad transparent caps from a friend a while back, and they looked good, but eventually I gave up on them, because I needed to clean the keyboard too often, and that involved removing all the caps to vacuum underneath.

So yea, those Opaque rainbow POM caps are the best for backlit if you can still find them.

This board only has some keys lit, and I'm actually hoping that there is a way to turn them off if the light is too annoying to deal with. Worst case I'll remove the LED from the switch entirely.

Other than potentially removing the LED, this is going to be sitting on the desk at work so I have no modding plans for it.

Thanks for the response!

I own a DK9008G2 (MX Greens). Fn + F9 toggles WASD LED lighting which is almost undetectable unless you use the included doubleshot translucent red WASD caps.

I think the OCN edition has ABS caps instead of the PBTs my DK9008G2 came with.
